In Vincent Vallières's song "Le temps passe", the lyrics speak to finding solace and peace in simple pleasures, despite the ups and downs that life brings. The first stanza describes the singer's ability to feel lighter and less burdened when surrounded by nature (represented by the green grass). The line "je vois tout à l'envers" translates to "I see everything upside down", which suggests a different perspective or perhaps a willingness to look at things differently. The singer also mentions being barefoot and not feeling discomfort, so long as they have the right tools (represented by the "bon tourne-vis" or good screwdriver). This may suggest that while life can be difficult, having the right mindset and tools can make it more manageable.
The second stanza continues with the theme of finding joy in simplicity, away from the singer's usual "travers" or faults. The line "nus pieds dans l'abysse" translates to "barefoot in the abyss", which suggests a vulnerability but also a willingness to face challenges head-on. The singer wants to live without artifice or hidden motives, as long as they have the free air to breathe. Despite any difficulties that may arise, the singer continues to find joy in the small things, evidenced by the repeated lines "je ris comme un fou sous le soleil doux" (I laugh like a madman under the soft sun) and "je dors dans la clarté des étoiles l'été" (I sleep in the clarity of the stars in summer).
The repeated chorus of "et le temps passe" (and time passes) suggests that no matter what happens, life continues to move forward. The singer acknowledges that sometimes they stumble, abandon, or loosen the reins, but ultimately time marches on whether they like it or not. Despite this, the song remains optimistic in its message of finding joy and lightness of being in the present moment.
