The Knife
I'm in love with your brother
What's his name?
I thought I'd come by
To see him again
When you two danced
When you two laughed
Oh what a laugh
Has he mentioned my age love?
Or is he more into young girls with dyed black hair?
I'm in love with your brother
I thought I'd come by
I'm in love with your brother
Yes I am
But maybe I shouldn't ask for his name
And you danced
Oh what a dance
And you laughed
Oh what a laugh
Does he know what I do?
And you'll pass this on, won't you?
And if I ask him once what would he say?
Is he willing?
Can he play?
If I ask him once what would he say?
Is he willing?
Can he play?
Does he know what I do?
And you'll pass this on, won't you?
And if I ask him once what would he say?
Is he willing?
Can he play?
I wasn't really looking for much more than
Some company on the dance floor and
Does he know what I do? and
You'll pass this on, won't you?
I wasn't really looking for much more than
Some company on the dance floor and
If I asked him once, what would he say?
Is he willing? Can he play?
The lyrics of the song "Pass This On" by The Knife as performed by Vintage Reggae Soundsystem are about unrequited love for someone's brother. The singer declares that they are in love with the person's brother but are unsure if the brother is interested in them due to the brother's affinity for young girls with dyed black hair. The singer also wonders if the brother knows what they do and asks the person listening to pass the message on to him. The singer admits that they were only looking for some company on the dance floor and questions if the brother is willing and able to reciprocate their feelings.
The lyrics seem to describe a complicated and potentially taboo love affair. The singer is attracted to the brother of the person they are addressing and wants to see him again, but is unsure if their feelings are reciprocated. The brother's preference for a certain type of woman is also mentioned, hinting at further obstacles to their romance. At the same time, the singer seems to be resigned to the possibility that their love may not be returned and is only seeking some companionship in the form of a dance partner.

To me the style seems more ska than reggae and if I hadn't known I would have thought it was The Skatalites. This is definitely a case where the cover sounds as good if not better than the original.
TARRA ANN TULLA
Definitely. It sounds like the knife covered this song, instead of the other way around
