The power foursome then moved to commune, create and rehearse amongst the famed musical lore of Laurel Canyon. Within two weeks of rehearsals in early 2010, the group quickly began playing local shows and late night speakeasies. Led by timeless vocal tone and presence, small tweed amps, and a mission to move as many people as possible, the band quickly gained a reputation as a high energy and truly mesmerizing live act whose performances feel like down-home revivals with an uptown edge. Sticking to their roots of mid-century original soul music and recording techniques, the band used a lean three-day recording session with full takes and no-frills to turn out 12 new songs a mere two months into the project. With singles like "Gracefully", "Nancy Lee", "Still & Always Will" and "Blues Hand Me Down", the resulting sound brings you back to the days of vinyl records, sweaty juke joints, and the feel and essence of the original soul movement.
Nobody Told Me

So, get up and gather around, everyone.
I’m withering. Dying. Trembling from trying. Barely crawling.
What can be done?
What will be done?
NOBODY TOLD ME
NOBODY TOLD ME
HOW HEAVY THIS LIFE WAS GONNA BE
Here stands a silver lined believer. Not believing.
A rosy-eyed dreamer awakening
Into a moment when hands are not given to the needing
What will become
Of this needing one?
NOBODY TOLD ME
NOBODY TOLD ME
NOBODY TOLD ME
HOW HEAVY THIS LIFE WAS GONNA BE
If I can just hold on
Until the morning dawns
And nothing remains but a better day
And my song…
Will sing of the weighed down times now behind me.
And I’ll be moving.
And I’ll be grooving.
NOBODY TOLD ME
NOBODY TOLD ME
NOBODY TOLD ME
HOW HEAVY THIS LIFE WOULD BE
HOW HEAVY THIS LIFE WOULD BE
But I keep pushing on
Everyday’s getting heavier and heavier
Heavier and heavier
Everyday’s getting heavier and heavier
Heavier and heavier
The song "Nobody Told Me" by Vintage Trouble is about the struggles we face in life that we may not be prepared for. The lyrics start with a message and a calling for everyone to gather around. The singer then confesses to feeling like he is withering, dying, and barely crawling, asking what can be done and what will be done. The repetition of the phrase "Nobody told me" emphasizes the feeling that life is heavier than expected, as though there was no warning or preparation for the struggles to come. The verse then switches to a silver-lined believer who is not believing, a dreamer who is not given the help they need. The singer wonders what will become of this needing one.
The chorus then repeats the idea that nobody told the singer how heavy life was going to be, and he keeps pushing on despite the weight. The bridge offers a glimmer of hope, saying that if the singer can hold on until the morning dawns and a better day arrives, he will be moving and grooving. The repetition of "heavier and heavier" at the end of the song emphasizes the weight of the burdens the singer is facing.
Overall, "Nobody Told Me" is an honest and relatable expression of the struggles we all face in life, and the feeling that sometimes we are left to face them alone.

I've seen many of the biggest names in popular music of the last 50 years, across all genres, and I have to say Vintage Trouble are easily one of the best live bands I've ever seen. There gig at the Blues Kitchen on the day of the Royal wedding last year, is one I'll never forget. Words like epic and legendary come to mind, but I'm not even sure if those words do justice to what they did on stage that night. I'm waiting and hoping for a DVD of their tour.
