Drummer Victor DeLorenzo said that he would be open to recording new material with the Violent Femmes, but on July 15, 2013, it was announced that Dresden Dolls drummer Brian Viglione would be replacing DeLorenzo as the band's drummer. In a statement, DeLorenzo said "It's always hard to write a eulogy for a lost loved one. In this case, I sadly lament the loss of a dream and an ideal that was once Violent Femmes." Viglione is credited as the drummer on the 2016 release We Can Do Anything but would later be replaced by John Sparrow, who had played in the Violent Femmes backing band previously.
Their music is an innovative combination of American folk music and punk rock. The lyrics mix common adolescent themes like yearning for love, sex and affection with explorations of sin, death, and the hope of salvation. Their songs often express both a lyrical and musical sense of humor. Critics often attribute the Violent Femmes as laying the groundwork of dynamicism for the 90s grunge movement.
In its early days, the band frequently played coffee houses and street corners. They were discovered by James Honeyman-Scott (of The Pretenders) on August 23, 1981, when the band was busking on a street corner in front of the Oriental Theatre, the Milwaukee venue that The Pretenders would be playing later that night. Chrissie Hynde invited them to play a brief acoustic set after the opening act. The band signed to Slash Records and recorded their eponymous debut in July 1982.
The group quickly gained a small cult following after the release of their self-titled album that never burgeoned into widespread popularity, although a few songs from this album did get some recognition ("Add It Up", "Blister in the Sun" and "Gone Daddy Gone"). The debut album Violent Femmes went platinum ten years after its release, and "Blister in the Sun" has become an alternative rock radio staple.

Won't you stay with me just a little longer
It always seems like your leaving
When I need you here just a little longer
Dear lady there's so many things
That I have come to fear
Little voice says I'm going crazy
To see all my worlds disappear
Laughing at the sunrise
Like he's been up all night
Ooh slippin' and slidin'
What a good time but now
Have have to find a bed
That can take this wait
Good feeling
Won't you say stay with me just a little longer
It always seems like your leaving
When I know the other one
Just a little too well
Oh dear lady
Won't you stay with me just a little longer
Why does it always seems like your leaving
When I need you here just a little longer
The Violent Femmes' song "Good Feeling" expresses the desire for a temporary reprieve from reality. The singer appeals to a benevolent force, a "good feeling," to linger just a little longer. This good feeling, symbolic of joy or security, appears to be fleeing just when the singer needs it most. He communicates a sense of desperation in his plea for it to stay with him. He is afraid of losing control and succumbing to madness as he watches his "worlds disappear." Even in the midst of his fear, he conjures a vague image of a happy life, depicted as a sketch of a fantasy. He laughs at the sunrise in the same way a person laughs after staying up all night, reveling in the giddiness and freedom that comes with losing oneself in the moment.
The singer then experiences a moment of clarity, realizing that the good feeling was merely a temporary escape. He acknowledges that it's time to find a bed to rest in after an enjoyable night of "slipping and sliding." Yet, he's still hesitant to let go of that fleeting moment of happiness, begging the good feeling to stay just a little longer. However, the singer's plea rings hollow, and we are left with the sense that the good feeling has gone for good. The song's lyrics speak to the human experience of longing for happiness and the fear of its transience, a theme that has resonated with audiences for decades.

I've loved these guys since the early 80s. When I finally got to see them in the late 90s I was surrounded by college kids half my age who sang every word with every song. Staying power.
