The duo released the "Choke" EP on Bella Union, the label run by Guthrie and former Cocteau mate Simon Raymonde late 2000. Their highly-acclaimed debut album "Roulette" followed in 2001 on Instinct. A singles collection, "Casino", followed in early 2002 (Instinct). "Russian Doll", their official sophomore album was released in 2004 on Bella Union and represents a great artistic leap. Guthrie and De Mare have honed their song-writing partnership to create a flawless collection of sublime pop moments, ranging from desolate torch songs through to hypnotic summer lullabies.
While continuing his work with Violet Indiana, Robin Guthrie remains active on many fronts. 2003 saw the release of Imperial, his debut solo album, which was both a critical and commercial success. More recently he has been collaborating with Ulrich Schnauss and also Harold Budd, with whom he is writing the soundtrack to the new Gregg Araki film, Mysterious Skin. He has also created a short animated film, Lumiere, which he has performed as an interactive musical piece at various multi-media festivals across Europe.
According to Robin Guthrie's weblog, the duo have been in the studio working on new material.

Violet Indiana Lyrics

Where do I go, I gave my life to you
Precious reasons, expressions in your face
It's written all over you
Everything you say and do
What was I supposed to do?
What was I supposed to say?
What am I supposed to know?
What was I supposed to do?
What was I supposed to say?
Where am I supposed to go?
Where was I supposed to know?
What's the meaning?
The dreaded feeling
The reason's you don't want me
Oh, do you remember me
Do you remember?
How you used to feel for me
Where do I go from here?
What was I supposed to do?
What was I supposed to say?
Where was I supposed to go?
What am I supposed to know?
What the hell was I supposed to do?
The lyrics in Violet Indiana's song Sundance convey a sense of confusion and longing. The singer seems lost and unable to move forward, having given their life to someone else. They are searching for answers and direction, lamenting the loss of precious moments with their loved one. The details they see in their loved one's face are like clues in a puzzle, but the bigger picture remains elusive.
The repeated questions of "What was I supposed to do? What was I supposed to say? Where was I supposed to go? What am I supposed to know?" suggest that the singer is struggling to make sense of their relationship and their role in it. They are left feeling dreaded and uncertain, and the reasons for their partner's rejection are unclear. The final question of "What the hell was I supposed to do?" is a raw expression of frustration and despair.
Overall, the lyrics evoke a feeling of emotional turmoil and uncertainty, as the singer struggles to reconcile their feelings with the reality of their situation. It's a powerful depiction of the kind of pain that can come with love and loss, and the difficulty of moving on.
