Part Of Me
Virgil Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Invisible chords and strings
Just another puppet on a wire
I carry water in my hands
I run along miles of sand
We were making X's where your eyes were
Chorus:
There's a part of me that knows you make me safe
There's a part of me that hates you
For loving me that way
Loving me that way
Another 100,000 years of rope
Is tying us to the bedpost
Everybody learns to fly in circles
Why is this so obvious
To everyone around, but us?
Everybody loves to watch a circus
Repeat Chorus
I'm gonna make a wish
To the giver of gifts
Please just let me go
Please just let me go
Please just let me go
Please just let me go
Repeat Chorus
(Please just let me go)
That Way
(Please just let me go)
That way
Repeat Chorus
There's a part of me that knows you make me safe
There's a part of me that hates you
For loving me
(Please just let me go)
Loving me that way
The lyrics of Virgil's song "Part of Me" depict a complex and ambiguous emotional state, where the singer is torn between love and hate, safety and vulnerability. The imagery of "invisible swords and ropes with rings" and "invisible chords and strings" suggests a sense of being manipulated or controlled, perhaps by the loved one whom the singer both blames and needs for protection. The puppet metaphor reinforces the feeling of powerlessness and the underlying tension between dependence and independence.
The second verse introduces the motif of flying and circling, which may signify the circular nature of the relationship or the endless cycle of hope and disappointment. The reference to "making X's where your eyes were" implies a sense of loss, either of intimacy or of trust. The repetition of the chorus, with its conflicting emotions, highlights the complexity of the singer's feelings and the struggle to reconcile them. The final plea to be let go suggests a desire for freedom or release from the emotional entanglements, but also a fear of losing the sense of safety and familiarity provided by the loved one.

This guy is living the life. He's 38 and doing things that people his age "shouldn't do". So inspiring!
James Green
Iron Blingers she’s implying that society doesn’t think a 38 year old should still be djing, which is a stupid belief to have. On top of that, she said it was inspiring, meaning she believes it too, which is insane since most of the worlds most respected ‘real’ djs are in their 40s. That’s the point I was making and you’re a complete mong if you missed that pal.
