The original line-up consisted of Nicole Bogner (female vocals), Christian Stani (male vocals), Werner Fiedler (guitars), Mike Koren (bass), Chris Kamper (keyboards), and Thomas Caser (drums). Inspiration came both from successful symphonic metal band Nightwish and from the myth of Atlantis. The equal combination of male and female vocals distinguishes Visions of Atlantis from Nightwish though and is more reminiscent of Lacuna Coil.
A first demo, "Morning In Atlantis", was released in 2000. In 2001 they signed with TTS Media Music/Black Arrow Productions, and in 2002 their first album, "Eternal Endless Infinity", was released. 2003 saw a change in line-up, replacing Christian Stani with Mario Plank and Chris Kamper with Miro Holly. Now with Napalm Records, Visions of Atlantis released their second album, "Cast Away", in 2004. Since then a few more band members have left and joined. In 2005 Nicole Bogner was replaced by Melissa Ferlaak (formerly with Aesma Daeva) and Wolfgang Koch replaced Werner Fiedler. In 2006 Martin Harb, who already played with Visions of Atlantis on their tour in Mexico in 2003, replaced Miro Holly.
In May 2007, their third album, "Trinity", was released. In September 2007, they began their first North American tour with Epica.
On the 28th of November 2007 a message was posted on the official Visions of Atlantis website saying that Melissa Ferlaak and Wolfgang Koch have left the band, both citing personal reasons. Following this Visions of Atlantis have announced their ex-guitarist Werner Fiedler has rejoined the band.
On the 1st of February 2009 a message was posted on the official Visions of Atlantis website to present a new lead vocalist of the band, in the person of 20 years old Austrian singer Joanna Nieniewska.
However Joanna was replaced on June of the same year,by the greek singer Maxi Nil (x-Elysion) and now the band is in the studio, preparing their new album which will come out in the first months of 2011.

New Dawn
Visions of Atlantis Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
All the days we made it out
But today I face tomorrow
Yes there's bigger fear than before
And lonely knights are getting more
But there won't be lies and sorrow
Again I have been told to let you go
I am sorry, cause my head won't so
Burn my heart
Burn it out
Cause without you there's no doubt
That I won't need all those feelings for a new dawn
Take my soul
Carry down
all those memories to your ground
But the water in your eyes says
Forever we are bound
Blackened times I hoped in pain
But all attempts were in vain
That you would change your destination
No there are no feelings left
Little needles bigger shaft
In my head just my fixation
Again I have been told to let you go
Oh no
But otherwise my blood would stop to flow
Burn my heart
Burn it out
Cause without you there's no doubt
That I won't need all those feelings for a new dawn
Take my soul
Carry down
all those memories to your ground
But the water in your eyes says
Forever we are bound
The lyrics of Visions of Atlantis's song New Dawn talk about the struggles of moving on from a past relationship. The singer reminisces about the days they've spent with their partner and how they've made it through their problems together. However, they now face a new tomorrow which brings in a bigger and more profound fear than before. The nights have become lonelier, and they know that there will be no lies and sorrow anymore.
The singer has been told to let their partner go, but their head won't allow them to do so. They ask their heart to burn out all the feelings they have for their past lover because without them, there's no doubt that they won't need those feelings for a new dawn. They want their soul to carry all their memories down to their lover's ground, but the water in their lover's eyes says that they're forever bound. The singer has tried everything to change their lover's mind, but all attempts have been in vain. They feel little needles and a bigger shaft in their head, which is their fixation on their past lover.
Overall, the lyrics of New Dawn capture the pain and struggle of moving on from a past relationship. The singer knows that they have to let go of their past lover, but their emotions won't allow them to do so. The water in their lover's eyes signifies that there's still hope for them to reconcile and be together forever.
