MorseBusters
The fellow sending the scratchy "spark" transmissions of "QST," etc. in the piece was Ed Raser, licensed as amateur radio station W2ZI since 1912.
In 1960, when I was ten, Ed administered my first amateur license exam in the study of the antique radio museum occupying a wing of his home. After passing, he had me operate, very briefly, that same scratchy spark transmitter you hear in the piece - a bending of the rules regarding such things. It was a rite-of-passage, a passing of the baton - or rather - Morse code key - from the inventors of our electronic world.
It was a thrill to once again hear those sparks... I could almost taste the ozone that wafted in the air when I keyed that spark transmitter so long ago... maybe that's what caused the mist that clouded these old eyes.

My music teacher's professor. That is how I know this piece. It reminds me of newer ambient music, especially Juche or Autechre, or maybe contemporary Terry Riley.

Had this recording decades ago under the title "Shortwave Fantasy." I lost or misplaced the recording years ago, so I am very delighted that this upload is here! Thanks!
