01. Early 80's hardcore punk band closely linked to the Washington D.C. scene but actually hailing from nearby Columbia, Maryland. Often credited as one of the first bands to successfully fuse hardcore and heavy metal, this was mostly due to guitarist Bubba Dupree's unique playing style that somehow managed to merge the reckless abandonment of punk with the technical riffing of metal. Mostly ignored at the time, they did manage to gather a small cult following through their chaotic live shows that often ended in drunken mayhem perfectly mirroring their highly volatile music. Their recorded legacy consists of just fifteen tracks, three on the legendary Flex Your Head compilation of early D.C. hardcore and twelve more on a split album with The Faith, both released on seminal hardcore label Dischord. There is also an unauthorized CD of their early demos available. They also recorded an album for Touch And Go records which remains unreleased called Potion For Bad Dreams.

Ignorant People
Void Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You're just another society, you require acceptance too
Think you're individuals - but you're really one in the same
You're just ignorant people - you hide behind your name [x2]
Started out alright, but you got lost in the race
Prostituted your mind, now you don't control yourself
Call yourselves number 1, ha ha, we laugh in your faces
You're just another society, you require acceptance too
Think you're individuals - But you really are
Set in a confrontational tone, Void's song "Ignorant People" criticizes those who claim themselves to be superior and individualistic, but in reality, are just conforming to societal expectations. The lyrics mockingly dismiss their self-proclaimed number one status and laugh in their faces. The song highlights the irony of these individuals seeking acceptance while pretending to be unique.
The lyrics suggest that these people have lost their way in a competitive world, sacrificing their true selves in the pursuit of success. They have become slaves to societal pressures, prostituting their minds and losing control over their own thoughts and actions. The line "What is left in you? Now you can't find a trace" indicates that they have become disconnected from their authentic selves.
Void portrays these individuals as ignorant, hiding behind their name or false persona rather than embracing their true identities. By equating them to ignorant people, the song suggests that their ignorance lies in their failure to recognize their own conformity and lack of genuine individuality.
Overall, the song serves as a critique of those who blindly follow society's expectations and highlights the importance of staying true to oneself amidst external pressures.
