01. Early 80's hardcore punk band closely linked to the Washington D.C. scene but actually hailing from nearby Columbia, Maryland. Often credited as one of the first bands to successfully fuse hardcore and heavy metal, this was mostly due to guitarist Bubba Dupree's unique playing style that somehow managed to merge the reckless abandonment of punk with the technical riffing of metal. Mostly ignored at the time, they did manage to gather a small cult following through their chaotic live shows that often ended in drunken mayhem perfectly mirroring their highly volatile music. Their recorded legacy consists of just fifteen tracks, three on the legendary Flex Your Head compilation of early D.C. hardcore and twelve more on a split album with The Faith, both released on seminal hardcore label Dischord. There is also an unauthorized CD of their early demos available. They also recorded an album for Touch And Go records which remains unreleased called Potion For Bad Dreams.

Are closing me in
The anger and rage
They come from within
Finding a new way
To claw yourself out
Falling and crawling
Your time has run out
You're surfing the crowd
It's not for me, no way!
You cry for help
But your screams fade away
Please help! (No!) Okay!
Don't try to run
You're in on your own
When worlds collide
And you're stuck between
The good and the evil
You see the bloody faces
And the running people
You bang your fucking head
You're ready to attack
You see the bodies flying
Over Marshall stacks
Think fast!
Metal will flow
Through your bloodstream
Now let the thrashing begin!
You're moshing around
Like you're crazy
You're pushing and shoving your friends
Fights break out
You're surfing the crowd
It's not for me, no way!
You cry for help
But your screams fade away
Please help! (No!) Okay!
Don't try to run
You're in on your own
When worlds collide
And you're stuck between
The good and the evil
You see the bloody faces
And the running people
You bang your fucking head
You're ready to attack
You see the bodies flying
Over Marshall stacks
Think fast!
Think fast!
But not too quick
Live in the moment
Jump in the pit
Think fast!
It's not too late
Get up and choose your fate
Think! Fast!
But not too quick
Live on the edge
Or fall in the pit
Think Fast!
Fights break out
You're surfing the crowd
You cry for help
But your screams fade away
Don't try to run
You're in on your own
When worlds collide
And you're stuck between
The good and the evil
You see the bloody faces
And the running people
You bang your fucking head
You're ready to attack
You see the bodies flying
Over Marshall stacks

The lyrics to Void's song "Think" explore themes of anger, frustration, and the struggle between good and evil. The opening lines depict a sense of being trapped and consumed by internal turmoil, with the spirals closing in and anger and rage arising from within. The singer is desperately searching for a way out, but their time seems to have run out, and they find themselves falling and crawling.
As the song progresses, the focus shifts to the chaos and aggression of the mosh pit and the sense of release it provides. The lyrics describe fights breaking out and the singer surfing the crowd, finding solace and a sense of belonging in the midst of the madness. However, there is an underlying tension as the lyrics suggest that this chaotic release may be fleeting, with cries for help fading away and a sense of being stuck between the forces of good and evil.
The chorus encourages quick thinking, as metal music courses through the bloodstream, inciting thrashing and moshing. The lyrics highlight the experience of physically engaging in the music and the catharsis it provides. The final stanza reinforces the importance of living in the moment, making choices, and embracing the edge rather than falling into a pit of stagnation.
Overall, "Think" portrays the struggle of finding release and redemption in chaotic experiences, while also acknowledging the need for awareness and agency in one's actions.
