Mercury
Voivod/Voïvod Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
In need of energy
Reform to bring on anarchy
Can't you see
You must be
Return of the forgotten race
Tonight there is no time to waste
You must be
Vital demon
Spirit of Zoth
Toxic vapor
Leader of souls
You will be
You will see
Anark
Transmute
Become the moon
Zoth is free
Mercury
Zoth is free
Anarchy
Anark
Conclude
Reform
Renew
Return
Conquer once again
The song "Mercury" by Voivod, also stylized as Voïvod, is interpreted as a call for rebirth and metamorphosis to bring about anarchy. The lyrics suggest that the band is urging their followers to tap into a primal energy and return to their forgotten roots. They speak of a "forgotten race" that must be revitalized, and a "vital demon" that must be awakened. The references to "Zoth" and "Mercury" further emphasize this idea of a transformation and a reawakening.
The final lines of the song, "Anark/Transmute/Become the moon/Zoth is free/Mercury/Zoth is free/Anarchy/Anark/Conclude/Reform/Renew/Return/Conquer once again," suggest a cyclical process of destruction and creation. This speaks to the idea that anarchy and rebellion are not destructive forces, but necessary catalysts for change and progress.
In summary, "Mercury" is a stirring call to action, urging listeners to embrace their primal energy and work towards a positive transformation of society.

Piggy just absolutely crushes on this record..............OMG that freaking TONE!!
Some people complain that Piggy doesn't play enough solos.............the tone, the atmosphere, the pure riffage mania, time changes............
This whole freaking ALBUM is a guitar solo, LOL.

I used to study very close to the town they were from in Quebec. Unlike the town I was from the punk scene in the area of Lac st jean was very strong. Guys where on a diet of maiden and punk at the same time. Popular punk bands in that area were gbh and discharge. Misfits could have been one.
The Ramones
I hosted a punk/hardcore radio show in the 80's in Jonquière. Too many bands to talk about.....heavy metal was more popular though.
