fantastic piece! love how the two seperate choirs are differently voiced high and low. This would work well in a good acoustic with the choirs seperated and answering antiphonally.

This is why it was written this way. The choir would be in different lofts throughout the church. They (composers in the 16th century) were obsessed with antiphones at this time.

The Venetian school around Adrian Willaert, Andrea Gabrieli and his nephew Giovanni Gabrieli called it „cori spezzati“ ( „split choirs“ ), and Gallus used this technique a lot in his works .

@@janprah5655oh please , don’t make him a nationalist 400 years before the invention of nationalism! He never used „Petelin“ as his name, and for composing he used Latin, Italian and German , no Slovene! It’s ridiculous to make him some „national composer“ at that time!

Jacobus Gallus Carniolus 1550 – 1591was a composer of Slovene ethnicity … he lived and worked in Moravia and Bohemia during the last decade of his life. Gallus most likely was educated at the Cistercian Stična Monastery in Carniola. He left Carniola sometime between 1564 and 1566, traveling first to Austria, and later to Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia … From 1585 to his death he worked in Prague as organist to the Church of St. John on the Balustrade

I never said that this is the ONLY reason... I said that this is one of the FEW reasons.
Of course I am in a way proud to be slovenian, I am very proud to be of slavic origins, I am proud of slovenian music, religion, culture and language, as well as I am proud of any other slavic language.
What I am not proud of is that our country tends to adopt western consumer culture more and more, I am not proud of our political division and I am not particularly proud of the birocracy that rules over our economy and healthcare - although I admit that we are still blessed to have free healthcare...
But I do agree, that I perhaps exagerrated a little in my comment.
