The project originally came together with songs being written in 2005. It was not recorded until the fall of 2008 in Fall Creek, Wisconsin, USA.
Since then, Jon Mueller (Death Blues) and Thomas Wincek (of All Tiny Creatures) have left Collections of Colonies of Bees, but continue to be members of Volcano Choir. They have also added Matthew Skemp on bass, who also plays in All Tiny Creatures.

Laying near the lights
Of the knights of the northern lodges
There’s a border road
No one slip slides or stoppin’
And the neighborly, sleeping in a coffin
With enough keif
Took a rat trap out to the Ache Inn
We were drinking all the ways to down
Door's wide open
You know what were saying ‘bout us now
He’s a legend
I’m a legend
And we both go tripping through the door
You know that we are northern now
Heard you promise me at the north end of monogamy
Cut there from filament lead
Somewhere I heard you scream
For others’ hearts
And in the limiest of lights
Hold the keys to a Cuban flight that you won’t ever ride
It’s time to up and die
Set sail!
Set sail!
Set sail!
Set sail!
Oh, you plenty competent
So why aren’t you confident
It’s softening to be softening
Then why are you so constant then?
Are we going on a coat ride?
Well, were off and definitely stumbling
Tossin’ off your compliments, wow
Sexing all your Parliaments
The song "Byegone" by Volcano Choir describes a journey or a trip that could have been taken by the singer and another person. The first few lines of the song suggest that the singer is reminiscing about a day that has passed and the events that took place. They describe themselves as "laying near the lights" of the "knights of the northern lodges", which could be a metaphor for being lost or unsure of their destination. The mention of a "border road" and "neighborly sleeping in a coffin" gives the impression that they are traveling through a desolate area and encountering unusual things along the way.
The lyrics also paint a picture of the singer and their companion being under the influence of drugs or alcohol. They mention "enough keif" to bore someone and "drinking all the ways to down". However, amidst the chaos, they seem to be enjoying themselves and living in the moment. The latter part of the song then becomes more surreal, with references to "filament lead", "limiest of lights", and a "Cuban flight". The repeated calls to "set sail" suggest a desire to escape or embark on a new adventure.
Overall, the lyrics of "Byegone" are abstract and open to interpretation, but they create a vivid and dreamlike atmosphere that captures the spirit of a journey full of unexpected twists and turns.

You could really bore someone
Indulging in introspection
Took a rat trap out to the Ache Inn

It’s time to up and die
Starting a new life
Set sail!

Oh, you plenty competent
Being skilled
So why aren’t you confident
Lacking self-assurance
It’s softening to be softening

how can a video have 1.5m views but 4000 subscribers? Thats a huge ratio lol.
A wooden cabin in the woods,
The trees around, tall and old,
A man, alone with his thoughts,
Strumming chords on his guitar, bold.
As the music fills the air,
A flock of birds fly by,
Watching him with curious eyes,
As the day slowly goes by.
The sunset paints the sky in gold,
As the man sings his song,
Voices join in, harmonies unfold,
Echoes of the past, right and wrong.
The music flows like a river,
As the man pours out his soul,
His voice full of emotion,
Like a bird on a roll.
The video takes us on a journey,
As the man walks through the woods,
A volcano in the distance,
Looming, dark and brooding, it stood.
The song builds up to a climax,
The volcano erupts in flames,
The music swells, emotions high,
A symphony of life, love and pain.
And as the song fades away,
The man walks towards the light,
A new day dawns, a fresh start,
The future is now in sight.
