1) A mononym of Aurelio V… Read Full Bio ↴Voltaire is a name of at least three acts:
1) A mononym of Aurelio Voltaire Hernández (b. 1967, Havana, Cuba), a singer/songwriter whose music has its roots deeply embedded in European folk and also has influences from the gothic scene. He has also been directing commercials and animating short films for ten years, the best known of these are his Hieronymus Bosch-inspired station MTV IDs.
Inspired by the films of Ray Harryhausen (Jason and the Argonauts, The 7th Voyage of Sinbad), Voltaire began animating at the age of ten on a super8 camera. By piecing together snippets of information from fanzines, he eventually was able to teach himself how to make foam rubber animation models and animate them. The films of his childhood landed him his first directing job in 1988 with MTV. The stop-motion tour of the hellish Garden of Earthly Delights won several awards.
He also teaches stop-motion animation at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
He also wrote the song "BRAINS!" for the Cartoon Network show "Grim and Evil" which has since split into two separate shows (The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, Evil Con Carne) and the song can also be found on his album "Boo Hoo".
An avid fan of Star Trek, Voltaire frequently attends conventions and released a four track E.P. called "Banned on Vulcan". It was a set of comedy recordings poking fun at characters from the show.
He often takes part in Adventure Quest Worlds special musical events in which he is drawn incredibly well!

Where'd she go?
Where's that kind and gentel princess
Of my dreams?
Where'd she go?
Why'd she go away?
Where'd she go?
Why'd you take her away from me?
Where's the child who use to play there
In your eyes?
Could it be she still resides there
In disguise?
Everyday I look for a sign
It's all in vain, a colossal waste of time
What have you done to her?
Why have you taken her away?
Where have you buried her?
Hid from the light of day
(So far away from me
So out of reach)
(Does she still live behind your eyes?)
The song "Where's The Girl" by Voltaire is a melancholic and emotional piece that explores the feelings of a person who seems to have lost the love of their life to an unknown force. The lyrics suggest that the singer is trying to search for the girl he fell in love with, but he can't seem to find her anywhere. He's looking for the kind and gentle princess he dreamed of, but she's nowhere to be found. The song opens with a series of questions, asking "Where's the girl I fell in love with? Where'd she go?" and continues to question why she had to leave and why she was taken away from him.
The lyrics also suggest that the singer is not just searching for the girl physically but also emotionally. He wonders if the child who played in her eyes is still there, hidden beneath a disguise. The line "Everyday I look for a sign, It's all in vain, a colossal waste of time" reveals the singer's desperation and frustration over his inability to find the girl he loves. The final line, "Does she still live behind your eyes?" implies that the singer believes the girl is still alive but hidden from him.
Overall, the song is a poignant representation of lost love and the desperation to find that which has been lost.

Listening to this on repeat I'm hearing a different meaning than I first did ??
I'm not sure why but my mind keeps going back to this being from the point of view of someone having a crush as opposed to someone being in a relationship. When you place someone on a pedestal but never get to ACTUALLY know them, you create all sorts of expectations for what you want them to be, and if you ever actually approach them you're going to realize they're not all you dreamed them to be.
It's kind of like in Gatsby - he built so many scenarios in his head that when it came to actually talking to her it wasn't the way he thought it was going to be. He was disappointed. He was hurt.
That's kind of how I see this - at least with my interpretation. Someone was in "love" and they built this image of someone they admired from afar, then realized when they actually spoke with her that she didn't live up to the dreams they had created. And they felt, in a sense, that she had killed that image of her they had created - even though she had never been that person.
I know that's likely not your meaning behind it and it's not the meaning most people get from it, but still. The beauty of music is that a song is what you believe it to be. Your interpretation is just as important as the interpretation the artist had while creating it.
I just thought it would be cool to share mine - sorry if I'm rambling.

I was showing friend some of your music and I played her this song and she said "Oh Voltaire, you have been hurt. You have been hurt. Who hurt you so badly?" in her best Peter Griffin voice. Then we were both shouting "WHO HURT YOU" until the song stopped. Good times were had. I've made her a fan. See you Saturday and happy early Birthday!

I love that thought

I thought of his friend who committed suicide. I thought it was about how people change, almost become a completely different person after bullying or trauma.
@Jenocide_Doll
i had an ex who used to ask me "what happened to the girl i fell in love with?"he would ask me this as a way to guilt into doing what he wanted, giving him money or sex, when i didnt want to. if i gave in everything went smoothly except for the part of me that died inside, if i didnt he would get violent. then one day he asked me this and i replied "you killed her." he tried to hit me and i shoved him so hard into a wall he fell. while i packed up my stuff to leave he yelled and screamed, threatening to call the cops on me, blah blah blah, but he didnt try to hit or strangle me, he wouldnt get close enough. i was kinda proud of myself.
