Vonda Shepard was born in New York but her family relocated to California when she was fairly young. She played piano from an early age. Her father is Richmond Shepard, a mime and improv actor. Vonda has three sisters: Rosetta, Luana, and Brianna. Her mother left the family when Vonda was ten, and her father raised the four girls by himself.
After performing as a backing singer for many years she was eventually given her own recording contract. Shepard's first chart appearance was in 1987 when she recorded a duet with Dan Hill entitled 'Can't We Try'. She released her first self-titled album in 1989 with little fanfare. The album did yield one chart single, Don't Cry Ilene, a mid-tempo, piano-driven jazz-RnB flavored song dealing with the break-up of a relationship between a black woman and a white man, arising from adult peer pressure. The track is sung from the perspective of the woman's white female friend, who harbors a desire to have the man for herself, but keeps her distance out of respect for her friend. The song peaked at 17 on the Billboard Hot Adult Contemporary chart and stayed on the charts for 12 weeks.
After her third album, Shepard was signed up to appear on Ally McBeal after being spotted by the show's creator David E Kelley. While on the show she recorded two full soundtrack albums and was featured on two other Ally McBeal compilations. The songs Shepard recorded for Ally McBeal soundtrack albums were mainly covers of old songs with lyrics that paralleled what was happening in the title character's life onscreen. Since appearing in the show, Shepard has released two more studio albums and a live album.
Shepard is married to music producer Mitchell Froom and they had their first child, Jack Froom, on 15 April 2006.
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

But the fire is so delightful
And since we've no place to go
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
It doesn't show signs of stopping
And I've bought some corn for popping
The lights are turned way down low
When we finally kiss goodnight
How I'll hate going out in the storm!
But if you'll really hold me tight
All the way home I'll be warm
The fire is slowly dying
And, my dear, we're still goodbying
But as long as you love me so
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
The song "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" by lyricist Sammy Cahn and composer Jule Styne was written in 1945, and it has since become a classic winter holiday song. The lyrics are about being trapped indoors during a snowstorm with a loved one, enjoying each other's company by the fire. The song opens by describing the unpleasantness of the outside weather, but the warmth and comfort of the fire are emphasized. The first verse is about the constant snowfall, while the second verse describes the romantic atmosphere created by the low lights and the popping of corn.
The third verse talks about the impending end of the evening, and the difficulty of leaving the warm and cozy setting to face the cold and snowy outside. But the singer finds comfort in the thought of being held tightly, and the song ultimately ends with a sense of contentment and love. The metaphorical use of snow as a symbol of love and warmth is notable, and it adds a cozy feel to the lyrics.

Oh the weather outside is frightful
The weather outside is extremely unpleasant and frightens me
But the fire is so delightful
However, the warm and cozy fire inside is very pleasurable
And since we've no place to go
Because we have nowhere to go outside in the bad weather
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
We might as well embrace the snow and enjoy being warm inside
It doesn't show signs of stopping
The snow is not letting up anytime soon
And I've bought some corn for popping
I have bought some corn kernels to pop as a cozy indoor activity
The lights are turned way down low
The lights are dimmed to create a cozy atmosphere
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
We are still embracing the snow and enjoying indoor activities
When we finally kiss goodnight
When it's time for us to say goodnight and go to bed
How I'll hate going out in the storm!
I really don't want to go out into the storm
But if you'll really hold me tight
However, if you hold me tightly, I might feel a bit better about it
All the way home I'll be warm
I'll be warm and safe with you by my side
The fire is slowly dying
The fire is slowly losing its warmth and light
And, my dear, we're still goodbying
We are still saying goodbye and parting ways
But as long as you love me so
However, as long as you love me, I am happy
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
We'll keep embracing the snow and enjoying our time together, despite the weather outside
