Members : The band includes vocalist/guitarist/band namesake Vaughan Rhea; his brother, Dave Rhea on bass; rhythm guitarist Garret Coleman; lead guitarist Todd Hackenburg; and drummer Jeff Irizarry.
Growing up in rural Tennessee, Vaughan Rhea's music sensibilities were shaped by LPs in his parents' record collection from songwriting heavyweights like James Taylor, Harry Chapin, and Cat Stevens. Deciding that Nashville already had too many wagons without a hitchable star, Rhea instead moved to Orlando, FL, and began playing the pub circuit as an acoustic solo act. But the soaring vocals and guitar-heavy sound of Pearl Jam's Ten made a huge impression on Rhea, and soon he had made the turn toward a more rocking sound. Vaughan and his brother, Dave, assembled a band, began to gig regionally, and were soon supporting such national acts as Third Eye Blind and Seven Mary Three. In 1997, Vonray released its debut, Panes. It was successful, and two years later the band re-released it, this time with four new songs. Producer Brett Hestla noticed the hoopla around the group, both in Orlando and regionally, and brought them in to record four new songs for an EP. The songs were shopped to the majors, and soon Elektra bit. A summer 2002 tour with fellow musical travelers and Floridians Creed followed, and in April 2003 Elektra released the band's self-titled debut. The LP gained valuable exposure when lead single "Inside Out" was included on the soundtrack to the WB Network's Smallville. ~ Johnny Loftus, All Music Guide

Vonray Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
When I feel misunderstood
I sit alone and wonder
What I am who I am
Thereæ?¯ a picture down the hall reminds me
Of when I almost had it all
When it falls I pick it up
Chorus
Itæ?¯ not like me to fall apart
I put my soul out on the table
You take me in
And only then I start to climb
I got a friend I like to see and it seems
I like her and she likes me
But it always leads
To a falling out, a falling out
Thereæ?¯ a chapter in a book and every page
Helps me take a second look
Itæ?¯ only then I find
The shelter from the pain
(chorus)
Bridge
Thereæ?¯ a fool in my head
Telling me Iæ?¦ not myself
Is it wrong for me to believe
That I could walk out of this dream
(Chorus)
The lyrics of Vonray's song "Hole" depict the struggles of an individual who experiences a sense of loneliness and a lack of understanding of their identity. The first verse of the song refers to a hole in the neighborhood where the person goes to be alone and wonder about their existence. This line serves as a metaphor for the emptiness inside that the person is trying to fill. The second half of the verse speaks of a picture down the hall that reminds him of a time when he almost had it all, but when it falls, he picks it up and puts it back, signifying that he is resilient and continues to persevere through adversity.
The chorus of the song is a declaration of the person's vulnerability and their willingness to reveal their soul to others. It also suggests that they need the acceptance of others to feel complete. The verse that follows the chorus speaks of a friend that the person likes, but whenever they get close, they inevitably fall out. This experience of having the same pattern of failing relationships leads to isolation and frustration.
Finally, the person finds solace in a chapter of a book that helps them take a second look at their life. They come to realize that they need to find shelter from their pain, suggesting they have grown weary of the endless cycle of loneliness and relationship problems. The bridge of the song acknowledges the struggle with conflicting internal voices that pull the person in different directions. The lyrics end with the chorus, repeating that they need someone to take them in before they can start to climb out of their current situation.
