Members : The band includes vocalist/guitarist/band namesake Vaughan Rhea; his brother, Dave Rhea on bass; rhythm guitarist Garret Coleman; lead guitarist Todd Hackenburg; and drummer Jeff Irizarry.
Growing up in rural Tennessee, Vaughan Rhea's music sensibilities were shaped by LPs in his parents' record collection from songwriting heavyweights like James Taylor, Harry Chapin, and Cat Stevens. Deciding that Nashville already had too many wagons without a hitchable star, Rhea instead moved to Orlando, FL, and began playing the pub circuit as an acoustic solo act. But the soaring vocals and guitar-heavy sound of Pearl Jam's Ten made a huge impression on Rhea, and soon he had made the turn toward a more rocking sound. Vaughan and his brother, Dave, assembled a band, began to gig regionally, and were soon supporting such national acts as Third Eye Blind and Seven Mary Three. In 1997, Vonray released its debut, Panes. It was successful, and two years later the band re-released it, this time with four new songs. Producer Brett Hestla noticed the hoopla around the group, both in Orlando and regionally, and brought them in to record four new songs for an EP. The songs were shopped to the majors, and soon Elektra bit. A summer 2002 tour with fellow musical travelers and Floridians Creed followed, and in April 2003 Elektra released the band's self-titled debut. The LP gained valuable exposure when lead single "Inside Out" was included on the soundtrack to the WB Network's Smallville. ~ Johnny Loftus, All Music Guide

Stranded
Vonray Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Now it seems you've got another thing on your mind
Every step I take seems to get you closer
Now you've finally crossed that line
Superficial game of mental hide and seek again
Taking chances with the ones you always called your friends
Trying hard to find piece of mind
don't think, you've left me stranded
I?ll be miles from where you found me
I only hope you feel my discontent
I can't help but think that this is how it should have been
Making light of all this hell that I've been living in
Taking chances never was my best defense
But tell me how else can I win?
Expectations fall apart I'm on my own again
I'm seeing clearly for the first time in my life my friend
Your perception?s just a little out of touch
Now time, it helps you understand
don't think, you've left me stranded
I?ll be miles from where you found me
I only hope you feel my discontent
My discontent
My discontent, yeah
Superficial game of mental hide and seek again
Taking chances with the ones you always called your friends
Trying hard to find this peace of mind we started with
You never let me in
Now time takes its toll again
don't think you've left me stranded
I?ll be fine if time allows it
I always saw right through your best intent
Your best intent
don't think you've left me stranded
I?ll be miles from where you found me
I only hope you feel my discontent
My discontent
My discontent
The lyrics in Vonray's Stranded suggest a betrayal and hurt that the singer feels as they believe they were promised eternal loyalty and instead their friend has switched allegiance. The intense feelings portrayed are evident in the lyrics, with lines such as "Every step I take seems to get you closer, Now you've finally crossed that line". The singer feels like they are playing a game where only one person is aware of the rules and the stakes are high. The use of the word 'superficial' highlights the singer's belief that the friendship was never truly genuine.
The lyrics also show the singer introspectively analyzing their own behavior in the friendship. They have tried to find peace of mind while taking chances, but they admit that "Taking chances never was my best defense, But tell me how else can I win?". The singer is asking their friend to understand the pain they are feeling at being betrayed.
Finally, the singer shows resilience in the face of this hurt, stating that they will be fine if time allows it, and that they always saw through their friend's best intent. This song is a powerful depiction of the pain and anger that can come with betrayal, as well as the strength needed to overcome it.
