Members : The band includes vocalist/guitarist/band namesake Vaughan Rhea; his brother, Dave Rhea on bass; rhythm guitarist Garret Coleman; lead guitarist Todd Hackenburg; and drummer Jeff Irizarry.
Growing up in rural Tennessee, Vaughan Rhea's music sensibilities were shaped by LPs in his parents' record collection from songwriting heavyweights like James Taylor, Harry Chapin, and Cat Stevens. Deciding that Nashville already had too many wagons without a hitchable star, Rhea instead moved to Orlando, FL, and began playing the pub circuit as an acoustic solo act. But the soaring vocals and guitar-heavy sound of Pearl Jam's Ten made a huge impression on Rhea, and soon he had made the turn toward a more rocking sound. Vaughan and his brother, Dave, assembled a band, began to gig regionally, and were soon supporting such national acts as Third Eye Blind and Seven Mary Three. In 1997, Vonray released its debut, Panes. It was successful, and two years later the band re-released it, this time with four new songs. Producer Brett Hestla noticed the hoopla around the group, both in Orlando and regionally, and brought them in to record four new songs for an EP. The songs were shopped to the majors, and soon Elektra bit. A summer 2002 tour with fellow musical travelers and Floridians Creed followed, and in April 2003 Elektra released the band's self-titled debut. The LP gained valuable exposure when lead single "Inside Out" was included on the soundtrack to the WB Network's Smallville. ~ Johnny Loftus, All Music Guide

But you just see things different
Youæ?®e turning whispers into screams
Itæ?¯ crazier å??veryday
And things have never been the same
Since that awkward moment
I ask you why you have to take
I can see it clearly now
Love is never easy
(chorus)
Where is this light you hope Iæ?£l find
Weæ?®e hopelessly locked up inside
Thereæ?¯ no way out no way to win
You say Iæ?¦ indifferentå?¢ just think youæ?®e
Strange
You line youæ?®e dreams up the a shelf
You just sit and watch them
You wish I was somebody else
Off your feetå?»wept away
But change is never welcome here
And it makes me wonder
How circumstances turn to fear
Another placeå??nother day
Can you see it clearly now
Weæ?®e running out of reasons
(chorus)
Where was I when all this changed
Too bad thereæ?¯ nothing left to say
You think Iæ?¦ indifferent
I just think youæ?®e strange
(Double chorus)
You tell me Iæ?¦ indifferent
I just think youæ?®e strange
The song "Strange" by Vonray speaks to the difficult journey of a relationship where two people are not on the same page. The opening lyrics express a disconnect, as the singer sees a need for simplicity in life while their partner is creating chaos by turning "whispers into screams." The relationship has been altered since a specific moment in the past, and the partner's choice to always take the "muddy road" leaves the singer questioning why. The chorus is a cry for help as the singers ask where the light is and feel trapped inside the relationship with no way to win. They are accused of being indifferent, but they feel that their partner is the strange one for wishing they were someone else.
Throughout the song, the dialogue between the two partners remains distant and disconnected. The partner lines up dreams on a shelf and watches them, while the singer feels that change is never welcomed in their relationship, leaving them wondering how fear has taken over. The middle of the song points to the inevitability of love being "never easy" and how the two are "running out of reasons" to try and save the relationship. The final lines show the desperation in not being able to change anything and the final accusation that their partner is strange.
Overall, "Strange" is a song that speaks to the frustration and pain of relationships that begin to fall apart. The disconnect between the two partners creates a cycle of misunderstanding and leads to a finality where there is "nothing left to say."
