Vroom (originally comprised of members John Johnson, Tim Seay, Jim Kellaris and Nate Foutz) released three albums and an EP during their tenure as a band between the late 90's and 2004. Their first album (Things Not to Do) was recorded while the band members were in high school. The album's melodic pop-punk style was well received at the time and won the band a following throughout the Mid-Atlantic region of the US, but also found fans as far away as the West coast. It was also during this time that original bassist Jim Kellaris left the band to pursue other interests. For shows after Jim left, Jason Garner filled in on bass.
The band's follow-up album, "...Throws Like a Girl" was recorded in Nashville, TN in late 1998 by John Painter (of Fleming and John fame). Painter played bass on the album in the absence of a permanent bass player. The album was released in 1999 while the band was in college. It was by far their most successful effort at that time, and remains their most popular work to date. Backed by frequent touring (during which Ron Babbington became the permanent bass player), the band expanded and solidified their following from Boston to Miami. With some tracks earning radio play, Vroom created quite a buzz around the indie scene well into 2001.
At that time the band released an EP entitled "A Five Song Demonstration". The EP marked a small shift in style, moving away from pop-punk into more of a pop-rock feel. The recording quality of the EP did the band no favors, and was not as well received as "...Throws Like a Girl". Still, the songs came off much better live than they did in a recorded form and the band pressed on.
In 2003, after failing to find a home on a label, the band decided to call it quits. They did, however, record and produce a final album on their own comprised of the remaining new songs in their catalog. This album (Rosebud) again marked a shift in the bands style toward a bit more experimental form of the pop-rock they'd previously been toying with. While "A Five Song Demonstration" was intended to be completely radio-friendly, "Rosebud" was a no holds barred approach to making music. As a result, the album is somewhat unconventional in tone and production.
In 2004 after a short farewell tour, the band called it quits. In 2005 they reunited for one show at The Drowsy Poet in their hometown of Lynchburg, VA. A video of this show can be found on Google Video.

But I swear I heard somebody
I'm all by myself
I must have been hearing the tv
‘Cause I need to know if you love me
I need to know if you love me
Everyone knows what they're doing to you
I'll be alright I just gotta be true
But I swear I heard somebody else
In the song "Somebody Else" by Vroom, the singer is struggling to trust their partner's loyalty in the relationship. They hear a noise and despite being alone, the singer is convinced that they heard somebody else. The lyrics suggest that even though the singer may be paranoid, they still need reassurance from their partner to feel secure in the relationship. The line "Everyone knows what they're doing to you" could mean that the singer is aware that other people may be trying to interfere with their relationship or that their partner may have a history of being unfaithful. Despite their doubts, the singer tries to remain true to themselves and their feelings.
The song's lyrics often deal with themes of trust, paranoia, and insecurity. It highlights the importance of communication and reassurance in a relationship. The smooth vocals and laid-back instrumental give the song a relaxing vibe while the lyrics explore the complexities of relationships.
