Tales of Woe
Vulture Industries Lyrics

With righteous bombast
Claimed to be chosen to chase off the darkness
Said in possession of that singular light
To be a beacon in such times of starkness
Through such times of starkness
Beneath his gloomy canvas overhang
Told us the tales of woe
And tribulations we would undergo
Came barging through the dusk erected his dome
Claimed the anointed task of being our warden
To chase the horror out from every nook
And set the sacred house right back into order
But as the dawn came you could spot his fangs
The sun cloaked by his shadow overhang
And in that shadow lived
The devils it told us not to forgive
Under a worn canvas skin
Within a circle of sin
There dance two terrible twins
Dressed up in different skin, set to win
Control of our hearts and minds
To rule over every kind
Control of our hearts and
Wide open eyes
Empty mesmerized
Follow into perdition
With every step
Goes another neck
A fair price of admission
Wide open eyes
Empty mesmerized
Follow into perdition
With every step
Breaks another neck
A fair price of admission
No room between
Here every colour is clean
Control of our hearts and minds
No room between
Here every colour is clean
Control of our hearts and minds
The opening lines of "Tales of Woe" paint a picture of a self-proclaimed savior who emerges during dark times with the promise of being a shining light. He claims to be chosen and equipped with a singular light to chase off the darkness. Throughout the chorus, he reveals the devil and his vicious gang, who lurk beneath his gloomy canvas overhang. He proceeds to tell us of the hardships we will face and the tribulations we will undergo. As the song progresses, we learn that this savior has sinister intentions. He comes barging through the dusk and erects his dome, claiming to be our warden, tasked with setting the sacred house right back into order. The sun cloaked by his shadow overhang reveals his true nature. The devils he warned us not to forgive dwell deep within the shadows.
The refrain "Wide open eyes, empty mesmerized," speaks to the control this false savior has over us. We follow him into perdition, blissfully unaware of the consequences because we are drawn into believing that he is our salvation. The final lines of the song highlight the power he holds over our minds and hearts, leaving no room between us. Every color is clean, and every decision is his to make.
