Hey You!
W.A. Mozart - Magic Flute - (in english) 1968 (Live) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hey you
Things to do
Live the life for faith and family
It's tough
With all that stuff
Filling your head
We know
The undertow
Could get us so we don't remember, but
Lest we ever
Lest we ever forget

Hey you, it's me
True lovers are we
Children under the sun
Two spirits in the name of One

Hey me
Got to be
Places to go and people there to see
No space
For back to base
And no time at all
We talk
Walk the walk
Run the race
And climb the ladder, but
If we ever
If we ever should fall

Sometimes the smoke clears

And I see things how they are
I see how we have come so far

Overall Meaning

The song Hey You by W.A. Mozart from Magic Flute (in English) 1968 (Live) is a reflective piece on life and its complexities. The lyrics speak of the struggles that come with living a life of faith and family. The song starts with the vocalist commanding the listener to take action and live life. There are so many distractions that can fill one's head, but the undertow of life's challenges can make it hard to remember what's truly important.

The vocals then go on to describe the two lovers as children under the sun who are united in spirit under the name of One. This line shows that love can transcend any obstacle in life, and the two lovers are one despite the challenges they face. The song then shifts to the personal struggles of the vocalist, who has places to go and people to see. They talk, walk the walk, run the race, and climb the ladder, but there is no time to be idle.

The song's chorus speaks of the fragility of life and how sometimes the smoke clears and we see things as they are, and we can appreciate how far we've come. This line speaks to the fleeting nature of life and the importance of not taking it for granted. The overall message of the song is that life is challenging, and it's easy to get sidetracked, but it's crucial to remember what truly matters in life, and that love can overcome any obstacle.

I would kill to attend this live!

My only complaint: as they did not have a pit, that wonderful "Papageno Papagena" was somewhat drowned by the orchestra. The singers were too close. The conductor should have placed them a little further forward or behind rather. Soloists are usually placed in front of the orchestra, but I think the acoustics here just weakened the volume of the two singers, but otherwise the conductor did great, as did everyone else. The good thing is though, we see a more historical setup, before they had the pits we do today, which I liked.

But, at rapid pace.😊

Remember, there is always an intermission. Here it was when the screen went dark, but it is the discretion of the conductor/orchestra board. If there are three acts, it's usually after Act 2, though I think this one is only two acts. Always take advantage of the intermission, 15-20 minutes. One reason is the musicians need to rest. Also, people to stretch their legs. It is long, but people had longer attention spans back then.
