Eastbound & Down
WSTR Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
She flies out to the East Coast of the States
But I'll remain here alone
Following my own ghost
Trying to live another day
I'm tired of being sick and I'm sick of being wasted
It's hard to admit that I'm hung up on the same shit
Your celebration's kind of dragging me down
Stops it from bumming me out
I had a little bit of money with a pocket full of hesitation
And isn't it fitting now you think you're better than that?
Don't look now
It's safe to say that it's a long way down
And if these engines fail
I'd like a little more faith and a lot less feelings
I bailed out now I wake up screaming
Hold it off another day
You're better off without me anyway
I feel like throwing up again
Stability is not my friend
I try to tell that to this pen
You love my agony don't ya girl?
Become the source of my antagony won't ya girl?
It's funny how my fears unfurled behind a laugh
She packs her bags leaves for a different world
Don't look now
It's safe to say that it's a long way down
And if these engines fail
I'd like a little more faith and a lot less feelings
I bailed out now I wake up screaming
Hold it off another day
You're better off without me anyway
I had a little bit of money with a pocket full of hesitation
Now finance is low with nothing to show for it
I'm pathetic
Don't look now
It's safe to say that it's a long way down
And if these engines fail
I'd like a little more faith and a lot less feelings
I bailed out now I wake up screaming
Hold it off another day
You're better off without me anyway
You're better off without me anyway
I had a little bit of money with a pocket full of hesitation
Now finance is low with nothing to show for it
I'm pathetic
The lyrics to WSTR's song "Eastbound & Down" tell the story of a person who stays behind while their significant other flies out to the East Coast of the United States. The singer is struggling with addiction and is tired of being sick and wasting their life away. They are hung up on the same issues and find it hard to celebrate the success of others when they feel stuck and alone. Intoxication provides temporary relief but ultimately brings the singer down.
The second verse talks about the singer's financial struggles and feelings of inadequacy. They had some money before but wasted it and now have nothing to show for it. They feel pathetic and wonder if their significant other is "better off without me anyway". The last stanza talks about the singer's instability and how they struggle to cope with their fears and anxieties. They blame their pen, which represents their inability to express their emotions in a healthy way. The singer's significant other packs their bags and leaves for a different world, leaving the singer behind to deal with their demons.

Great song, great album. Some of the best melodies I've heard in years came out of this album, rivalling the last few anthems State Champs and Neck Deep put out.
Call me old fashioned, but these newer bands are dunking all over that new Blink record in my opinion. It's so ironic.
@MichaelHarris-tm1ew
Blinkysaurus Rex I'd attribute that to the lack of "woah-ohs".
@rejuvesite
Could not agree more! My ears haven’t heard melodies like this since early NFG. Love it.
