By birth and by belief
Memory conceived
WWHAT a relief
Now listen deep and breathe
These things we speak may sound so bleak
Yet know we keep tongues firm in cheeks
Therapy so to speak
And so we leak
Doors creak open
Then spoken explosion
Frozen
Still frame still untamed
Still insane and ashamed of its fame
Chaos renamed
Yet the sensation remains
By birth and by belief
Memory conceived

Salvador Minuchin says in the final clip here,
"Ok, because I start with the idea that [all | only the] the people who come to Therapy are wrong. And they are wrong because they are certain. And certainty is the enemy of change.
And so, you know, empathy is to be able to understand the way in which a person is in life.
But a therapeutic empathy needs to a__? to l__? the courage to challenge, the courage to challenge the way in which the people are engaged in patterns that do not allow them to grow up.
So the question is, how do you challenge? And how to you challenge in such a way that people will hear you? Because if you challenge directly people will say, .. people will not come the next time, and that you do not want to.
So you challenge by saying, You're richer than you are, you're richer than what you think you are, you have roads that you have traveled and you have forgotten, and join me in a trek of rediscovering the complexity of your life.
You say that to individual people. You say that to families. And then different people do it different ways.
So my view of therapy is that you introduce uncertainty, you introduce confusion, you introduce curiosity, you introduce hope, and you introduce complexity."
I can't make out the words before "the courage to challenge", can anyone tell me what they are?

Mostly an introduction to her speech at the event and not the speech itself.
I really enjoy Esther's speeches as I learn much about humor and public speaking just watching her; so if you're here for that, start from 0:00.
There are tidbits of knowledge here and there but they're only a preview of the speech that followed.
Hoping we get the part 2 :)
Go Esther!

I was there, personally thought that wasn't worth almost $400, it was watered down pieces of different speakers personal insight here and there. As a non therapist I didn't learn much new/had much time to interesting/heated group discussions. I also went to another seminar she had wit New Yorker last year but she was talking about the same thing she did in the tedtalk. Love her tedtalk.

Omg $400 for this? Are you serious? And a good amount of this is free to watch online?

I have to say I do wonder myself about these events and how much they are money making exercises and dark too much listening to speakers when they should be interactive. You don't need to pay that much money to sit in a room and listen to talks especially if they repeat online stuff.I also think the venue looks like a multi story car park with terrible strip lighting.I hope they provided some decent food and drink for $400

Where can I get hold of the whole video presentation please?
