All That's Left
Wade Bowen Lyrics

Heading out, another night is falling
These empty arms have got something to prove
'Cause they're all that's left of loving you
I washed this jacket half a hundred times,
But your smell don't fade away like the blue
It's all that's left of loving you

I turn the sidewalks, oh the memories,
Walk these crowded streets 'till they're empty
I talk to strangers, lean on old friends,
They have the silence that comes creeping in the room
'Cause that's all that's left of loving you

This pair of boots you bought me for no reason
They're looking ragged and the soles are worn clean through
They're all that's left of loving you
A man plays guitar on the corner
He must feel like me, 'cause all he plays is leaving tunes
And that's all that's left of loving you

I turn the sidewalks, oh the memories,
Walk these crowded streets 'till they're empty
I talk to strangers, lean on old friends,
They have the silence that comes creeping in the room
'Cause that's all that's left of loving you

Yeah I turn the sidewalks, oh the memories,
Walk these crowded streets 'till they're empty
I talk to strangers, lean on old friends,
They have the silence that comes creeping in the room
'Cause that's all that's left of loving you

That's all that's left of loving you

Closing time, I stumble to the taxis

Tell the driver "Eldry's Lane, twelve oh two"
'Cause that's all that's left of loving you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to the song "All That's Left" by Wade Bowen paint a picture of a man who is coping with a breakup or a loss of love. The first verse sets the scene for the song, with the singer heading out into the night with his empty arms. He washes his jacket, but can't get rid of the smell that reminds him of his lost love. The chorus repeats the phrase "all that's left of loving you" several times, emphasizing the idea that the singer is left with only memories and tangible items that remind him of his past relationship.

In the second verse, the singer walks the streets and talks to strangers and old friends. He leans on them for support and companionship, but he can't escape the silence that creeps into the room, reminding him of what he has lost. The verse ends with the description of a man playing guitar on the corner, who, like the singer, seems to be playing "leaving tunes" that capture the heartache of a relationship that has ended.

The final verse of the song sees the singer stumbling out of a bar and into a taxi. He gives the driver an address, perhaps the place where he used to live with his former love, and the song ends with the repeated refrain of "all that's left of loving you."

Overall, the lyrics to "All That's Left" are a poignant exploration of the aftermath of a relationship that has ended. The singer is left with memories and physical reminders of what he has lost, and he struggles to find a way to move on.

on Who I Am

This is by far my favorite version of this song. "Well I've always loved you baby and I may not always do what's right" are way better lyrics than " Well I know I love the ladies love to go out at night"
