Missing you
Wade Bowen Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I must admit it's a beautiful city at night
To a boy from the country with stars in his eyes
Sometimes the skyline will take your breath away
How can you feel so lonesome in a town this size?

CHORUS:
There's a hit or miss chance I can find somebody
Now that I've got nobody to lose
So I'm hitting the town
Cause baby I'm missing you

I've got some jingle in my pockets for a change now
I feel like I'm itching from the inside out
Well I'm 15 stories above the streets of Dallas tonight
I hear the noise, I want to see what all the fuss is about

CHORUS

Well if I hurry I can make last call, at a sleezy little hole in the wall
I'll knock them back as long as they'll let me, as fast as I can

CHORUS x2

Missing you

Baby I'm missing you
Missing you

Overall Meaning

These lyrics are about a guy who moves from the country to the city and is amazed by the city's beauty at night. Although he's surrounded by the city's lights and sounds, he feels incredibly lonely. He acknowledges that there's a chance he'll find someone to hang out with in this huge town where he knows nobody. So, he goes out to experience the city's nightlife to numb his loneliness.

The first verse sets the tone for the rest of the song by describing the stunning cityscape the singer encounters. The chorus is contemplative, as the singer weighs his own loneliness against his chances of finding someone. He touches on the idea that he has nothing to lose; now that he's without the love of his life, he's going to go out looking for someone to scratch that itch, give his pockets a little jingle, and see what the night brings.

The lyrics conjure vivid images of the singer finding himself alone in a shimmering metropolis, surrounded by people, lights and noise. It's a desperate search for company and solace in a city that seems to offer it in abundance. The song's bridge confirms that the singer's thoughts are still fixed on the one he left behind, that he has only temporarily misplaced... or that he's just not ready to move on.

Overall, Wade Bowen's "Missing You" lyrics are a reflection of one person's lonely journey from the country to the city, and his struggles to find somebody to fill the void left by his significant other.

on Who I Am

This is by far my favorite version of this song. "Well I've always loved you baby and I may not always do what's right" are way better lyrics than " Well I know I love the ladies love to go out at night"
