A week later, at Ronson's studio, Wale recorded a freestyle for Ronson and in exchange, Ronson put Wale on an unreleased remix of Lily Allen's "Smile" which appeared on a number of music blogs around the world on March 13th, 2007. On Chill
Wale Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Why can't you agree with me for once?
Maybe we can be on chill tonight
Maybe I can give you chills too
We've been on a tragedy for months
Why can't you agree with me for once? (Yeah)
Maybe we can be on chill tonight (one time)
Maybe I can give you chills too (chill)
I'm gettin' mine like fine wine measured in time
Many other brothers loved you but this pleasure is mine
It's no pressure for us to say that I love you for now
So fuck that cuffin' shit, I just want us be comfortable now, for real
Who you lovin'? Who you wanna pull up with?
Who don't care you datin' long as you care and you trust him
Tryna hear all your problems so I can lighten the load
No you're not fighting alone
'Cause I'm protectin' you from 'em, so chill
Life hard and ex lovers is like scars
'Cause they stop hurtin' but never forgettin' what it was
I was a youngin' my biggest enemy was the club
Voicemails on third rings fucked me up, so I don't trust
We've been on a tragedy for months
Why can't you agree with me for once? (Tryin' slow up)
Maybe we can be on chill tonight
Maybe I can give you chills too
We've been on a tragedy for months (months)
Why can't you agree with me for once? (Yeah)
Maybe we can be on chill tonight
Maybe I can give you chills too (aye shawty, look)
Okay, they switch up on you I'm gonna stay the same
I pull up on you then put it in with patience
I'm good where we got it without no expectations
What good is a tidal when shawty been the wave? Yeah
Let me illustrate, ya
Let my tongue re-paint ya
It's already wet, have you had a brain storm?
Er'where a nigga take you, just know that my face good
Modify your energy so your bank and your skin glow
Max field let it fly
I be up in there a lot
Just to show you I don't care, go wear it to that nigga house
We don't share our whereabouts, or the gossip the hood love
Just supreme confidence, if we good that's good enough, whoa, yeah
We've been on a tragedy for months
Why can't you agree with me for once?
Maybe we can be on chill tonight
Maybe I can give you chills too
We've been on a tragedy for months
Why can't you agree with me for once? (Yeah)
Maybe we can be on chill tonight
Maybe I can give you chills
How about that, ohh?
I'm tired of makin' up and fallin' out
Wanna be the nigga you callin' up
That pick your body up when you down and out (let's chill)
How about that, ohh?
I'm tired of makin' up and fallin' out
Wanna be the nigga you callin' up
That pick your body up when you down and out (let's chill)
We've been on a tragedy for months
Why can't you agree with me for once?
Maybe we can be on chill tonight
Maybe I can give you chills too
We've been on a tragedy for months
Why can't you agree with me for once? (Yeah)
Maybe we can be on chill tonight
Maybe I can give you chills too
(You give me all)
(Just be there and there)
The lyrics to Wale’s song ‘On Chill’ explore relationships, intimacy, and trust. The singer longs for a moment of peace, away from the ‘tragedy’ or chaos that has been present in his relationship with his partner for months. He sees an opportunity for harmony and connection with his partner, and hopes that they can agree on this one. He wants them to ‘be on chill’ and to just be comfortable with each other without the pressure of a commitment.
Wale further highlights that his intentions are pure; he is not after a short-term fling, but rather a long-term, comfortable relationship. He shows his love and care towards his partner by being there for them and helping them through their problems. However, he acknowledges that trust is fragile and ex-partners can leave lasting scars. Despite this, he expresses his confidence that they can overcome any challenges as a couple and build a stable relationship.
Overall, the song’s lyrics showcase the importance of communication, trust, and mutual understanding in a relationship. Wale’s smooth and melodic delivery, coupled with the ethereal production, makes ‘On Chill’ a mellow and introspective track.

Great song.
The intro is from 'Ask of You' by Raphael Saadiq (1995), and lyrically the first two lines of the first verse:
"I'm gettin' mine like fine wine measured in time
Many other brothers loved you, but this pleasure is mine"
are from 2pac's second verse of his 1997 collaboration with John B, 'Are You Still Down.'
It's a cool tribute to 2Pac, and along with the Saadiq sample, help set the tone for the song, and really give it that 90s throwback vibe.
Fits right in on my 90s mixed cds (yes, mf-ers, I'm old).
