I Can Lift a Car
Walk the Moon Lyrics

When I come home
Oh I hear you washing in the shower
Mirages of you
Mirages of you
Even steam pouring through the crack at the floor
I won't lose it, I won't lose it
Hold it steady, hold it steady, hold it steady,
Hold it steady, hold it steady
Over top one another:
All by myself/I can lift a car
All by myself/I can lift a car
I can lift a car up all by myself
Over top one another:
All by myself/Up all by myself
All by myself/Up all by myself
I can lift a car up all by myself
So very nice
So very nice
My grandpa's leather jacket and goggles
So you kissed me
On the futon
Oh I hope you like it in Chicago
Hold it steady, hold it steady, hold it steady,
Hold it steady, hold it steady
I won't lose it, I won't lose it, I won't lose it
I won't lose it, I won't lose it
Over top one another:
All by myself/I can lift a car up
All by myself/I can lift a car up
I can lift a car up all by myself
Over top one another:
All by myself/Up all by myself
All by myself/Up all by myself
I can lift a car up all by myself
Did you did you
Did you know that
I can lift a car up all by myself
Well no misunderstanding
I'm not saying that you came
But you did
I can lift a car up all by myself
I've been going out
And trying to stay fit
Well I met someone who wears your glasses
She kissed me on
My new futon
Oh I'm clumsy cause she finds me attractive
I won't lose it, I won't lose it, I won't lose it
I won't lose it, I won't lose it
Over top one another:
All by myself/I can lift a car
All by myself/I can lift a car
I can lift a car up all by myself
Over top one another:
All by myself/Up all by myself
All by myself/Up all by myself
I can lift a car up all by myself
Did you did you
Did you know that
I can lift a car up all by myself
Well no misunderstanding
I'm not saying that you came
But you did
I can lift a car up all by myself
The song "I Can Lift a Car" by Walk the Moon seems to be about a relationship that has ended but the singer is still thinking of their former partner. "When I come home, oh I hear you washing in the shower...mirages of you, even steam pouring through the crack at the floor." The singer is haunted by memories and sensations associated with their former partner- even the scent of their former partner's shower routine.
The lines "All by myself, I can lift a car" seem to be a declaration of self-sufficiency in the wake of losing their partner- almost like a boastful defiance that they don't need anyone else. It's uncertain whether this is a healthy coping mechanism or a self-destructive one. Later in the song, the singer seems to be attempting to move on, mentioning meeting someone new but still struggling with feelings of clumsiness and attraction towards them.
The repetition of lines, especially in the chorus, add a sense of urgency to the song, as if the singer is trying to convince themselves more than anyone else that they can move on and be okay alone. The song is musically upbeat and celebratory, but the lyrics suggest a more complicated emotional landscape.

He's one of the happiest people I've ever seen. He looks so happy and lively in every video that he makes. I know he likes to party and he lives a really cool life, being a famous musician and whatnot. He's just really happy and I think that's awesome.

Let's just take a moment to appreciate the fact that Walk the Moon is so amazing they can use the word 'futon' in their lyrics seamlessly. Real talent right there.

Walk the Moon has proven in multiple videos, big production, fancy lights and professional dancers are not needed to make an entertaining, fun to watch, happy video. Love this ❤️

This album takes me back to those simpler times, the early 2010s. Maybe I’m just saying this because I was younger, but things felt happier then.

These guys seem like such an awesome group. Not only do they make incredible music, but they clearly enjoy each other's company and just have a blast doing what they do. This is the shit I like to see.
