Iscariot
Walk the Moon Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Until now, I knew this of myself
If you had thrown yourself down
Into the lion's den
My brother, I'd follow you in

Perhaps I lack some foresight (lack some foresight)
But brother, oh, you were so right
Sure as the setting sun (sure as the setting sun)
Can't trust just anyone (can't trust just anyone)

That's what you want
But it's not what you're asking for
I said that's what you're asking
But you're gonna get more than you bargained for
I said that's what you had
But you don't have it anymore
You had it comin'

I never imagined you dead (never imagined)
But tell me, are you even aware
That all that we did, you undo
Iscariot, you fool

That's what you want
But it's not what you're asking for
I said that's what you're asking
But you're gonna get more than you bargained for
I said that's what you had
But you don't have it anymore
You had it comin'
You had it comin'

My friend, my friend
You know you had it comin' my brother
You had it comin'
My friend, my friend
You know you had it comin' my brother
You had it comin'
My friend, my friend
You know you had it comin' my brother
You had it comin'
My friend, my friend
You know you had it comin' my brother
You had it comin'
My friend, my friend
My brother
My friend, my friend
My brother
My friend, my friend
My brother
My friend, my friend
My brother

My friend, my friend
My brother

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Walk the Moon's song Iscariot tell a tale of betrayal and regret. The opening lines show the loyalty and devotion of the singer towards their brother, as they declare that they would follow them even into the lion's den. However, the next line suggests that the brother did not have much foresight and was perhaps not trustworthy. The chorus repeats a warning that the brother has had it coming, and although the singer had never imagined them dead, they now seem to regret all that they did with and for the brother.

The lyrics also reflect a sense of dissatisfaction and unfulfilled desires. The line "That's what you want, but it's not what you're asking for" suggests that the brother was not clear about his intentions or goals, and did not communicate them well to the singer. This lack of clarity and communication led to an outcome that was different from what the brother wanted. Additionally, the line "You're gonna get more than you bargained for" implies that the brother wanted something, but did not fully understand the consequences of his actions.

Overall, the lyrics of Iscariot seem to be about the price of betrayal and the regret that comes with it. The brother had it coming, but the singer still mourns the loss of their relationship and the trust that was broken between them.

At the risk of being incredibly superficial and bypassing the absolute perfection of Walk the Moon...That man right there is beautiful.

Wow. I'm watching this man lip sing into the camera in a badly lit airport yet it's one of the more powerful experiances I've had musically. The melody combined with his intensity create something you could drown in.

***** Yeah, she's exaggerating a bit. However, the song is a bit personal for some, especially considering the subject matter. I think that may be where people are getting the "powerful" adjective from.

@97javic

It's powerful. There's no other word for it. She's right

He's on mine, I think he's attempting to "troll" but he's not doing a very good job.
