Iscariot
Walk the Moon (cover) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Until now, I knew this of myself
That if you had thrown yourself down
Into the lion's den
My brother I'd follow you in
Perhaps I lack some foresight (should have known)
Brother you were so right
Sure as the setting sun
Can't trust just anyone

That's what you want, but it's not what you're asking for
I said that's what you're asking, but you're gonna get more than you bargained for
I said that's what you had, but you don't have it any more
You had it coming

I never imagined you dead (I never)
But tell me, are you even aware
That all that we did, you undo
Iscariot, you fool

That's what you want, but it's not what you're asking for
I said that's what you're asking, but you're gonna get more than you bargained for
I said that's what you had, but you don't have it any more
You had it coming

Oh you know you had it coming my friend, my friend
You know you had it coming my brother, oh my brother
Had it coming my friend, my friend
You know you had it coming my brother, oh my brother
Had it coming my friend, my friend
You know you had it coming my brother, oh my brother

Had it coming my friend, my friend
You had it coming.

Overall Meaning

The song "Iscariot" by Walk the Moon is a song that is thought to be about betrayal and the consequences that come with it. When the singer states "if you had thrown yourself down into the lion's den, my brother I'd follow you in," it shows the loyalty that he has towards his friend or brother. However, the friend or brother, who is referred to as Iscariot, betrayed the singer and undid everything that they did together. The betrayal has resulted in anger and frustration from the singer towards Iscariot. The repetition of "you had it coming" emphasizes the accountability that Iscariot has for the betrayal.

In the chorus, the line "that's what you want, but it's not what you're asking for" reflects on how Iscariot had something he wanted, but did not appreciate it when he had it, and now that he has lost it, he wants it back. The line "you're gonna get more than you bargained for" implies that the singer will not simply forgive and forget the betrayal. The use of "brother" also adds a sentimental value to the song.

At the risk of being incredibly superficial and bypassing the absolute perfection of Walk the Moon...That man right there is beautiful.

Wow. I'm watching this man lip sing into the camera in a badly lit airport yet it's one of the more powerful experiances I've had musically. The melody combined with his intensity create something you could drown in.

***** Yeah, she's exaggerating a bit. However, the song is a bit personal for some, especially considering the subject matter. I think that may be where people are getting the "powerful" adjective from.

@97javic

It's powerful. There's no other word for it. She's right

He's on mine, I think he's attempting to "troll" but he's not doing a very good job.
