Many hard-working musicians dream of someday collaborating with the artists that inspire and influence them the most. For Baltimore-based hard rocker Gary Noon, this dream has become a reality.
Noon’s newest musical endeavor, Walking with Giants, recently released a self-titled EP on June 25, 2013. It was this project that brought Noon’s dreams to fruition, as he was fortunate to work with two of his biggest influencers: Clint Lowery (lead guitar – Sevendust) and Scott “Flip” Phillips (drums – Creed, Alter Bridge, Projected).
Noon’s passion for music started at a young age, and quickly became an effective way to channel his battle against ADHD and generalized anxiety. With a determination to succeed despite his challenges, Noon took to the guitar and found inspiration in songwriting. His diverse influencers ranged from guitar virtuosos like Joe Satriani and Mark Tremonti to elite singer-songwriters like Matt Scannell and Myles Kennedy.
Noon soon found himself spearheading a Sevendust and Alter Bridge cover band, playing the musical style that he enjoyed so sincerely. But it wasn’t long before Noon was able to cash in that talent for something even bigger.
Noon recalls, “Walking with Giants really came as a blessing in disguise. I was working with my other band, White Knuckles (Chad Szeliga - Breaking Benjamin and Robb Torres - Trapt) at the time, but our schedules just were not lining up how we needed them to. I had always chatted with Clint and Flip about my goal to record an album – not necessarily with them – but everything lined up and it worked out where they could be part of it.”
Noon performed guitar, bass, and lead vocals on the Walking with Giants’ EP, while Lowery performed guitar and back-up vocals and Phillips tracked drums. The EP was executively produced by Lowery. The explosively impressive production has left fans asking when the trio will produce a full-length album.
“While the story seems unbelievable at times, the experience has felt natural and organic” said Noon. “That crossroads is the foundation of my music.”
Lowery and Phillips currently remain as studio musicians for the Walking with Giants project. Noon is currently auditioning members to take the project on tour, and plans to begin setting tour dates soon.
The EP can often be heard on Internet radio sites The Indie Authority and radioYpsilon, and has been featured on websites like ToneFreqs, The Alter Bridge Nation, and Phoenix Music Online. It is currently available for purchase on many platforms including iTunes, Google Play, and Amazon MP3, and is also available on Spotify.
