Henrik Abellare Walter is one of Tommy’s people. I read somewhere that he would snitch on Mariah and tell Tommy what she was up to, mind you Tommy was very uptight and would keep Mariah isolated in the house & not let her go as much as she’d like to. No confirmation whatsoever though.

Also, Mariah once spoke in an interview (the video is here on Youtube) about sharing credits with “other people”.
I believe she was referring to songs that she had fully written herself, but she was forced to let other people’s names in the songwriting credits just cause. Look up her discography, and you could see a lot of Walter’s names. Link the dots.

They did legendary music together but given the history, I don’t know if we lambs would support them collaborating again, evidently Mariah was treated unfairly a lot of the times. Sad..

@Henrik Abellare We don't know for sure, and Mariah has a tendency to tight-lipped. But, from what we do know and can speculate:
After Mariah left Sony and Tommy, Walter stopped collaborating with her since he was contractually obligated to Sony at the time. We can speculate that Mariah felt betrayed because Walter "took sides" with Tommy. Mariah has implied/hinted that Walter revealed her secrets to Tommy (both professional and personal). I think Mariah just associates him with someone who caused her a lot of pain and was implicitly involved in that pain, even if he doesn't seem to notice.

I respect him a lot as a musician. But a collaboration with Mariah now is A No No for me. They don't have to collaborate again. Never. Not that they didn't make good songs· quite the opposite, and I still believe if they compromised, they could still create great and fresh music. I search and found out that Walter won Record of the year for My heart will go on as producer. He also produced Beauty and beast and other Disney theme song. The problem is Mariah cannot read or write music notes out..... I have the same problem.... So Mariah would write a song..... And she would sing different melodies in her mind.... And then she would use her voice to sound out the melody.... So she would hire people to listen to her melodies and write out the notes for her.... And producers would become greedy after the song became a hit.... And they would want credit for helping to write the song.... But all they would do is write out the melody that Mariah would give them... A lot of artists can't read or write music.... But they can write songs.... So they would hire a music technician who knows how to write music.... the industry never wants to give Mariah credit.... I've always felt like everybody's tried to steal from her since the beginning of her career....

@Wee Peng It was said already by other users. Walter was a Mottola`s protegee and when Mariah dumped Tommy, he picked Motolla`s side and turned Mariah down. She discovered he was passing info to Motolla and he began dating and producing an upcoming female artist named Samantha Cole with a very similar Mariah sound. Of course he wishes to work with Mariah again, after all, she has proved she can still write, produce and sing hits without him (well, this was a fact since day 1 because clever Mariah always worked with several producers) while he barely has any hits after Mariah, especially since Sony fired Motolla.

I don't really see here he mentions writing lyrics. It sounds like Mariah did the lyrics and he "wrote" the music? I've listened a few other songs he worked on after he and Mariah parted and they lyrics on those songs don't seem like Mariah's style... but her style of writing stayed after they parted. I would love for them to get back together though. He is clearly a master in his own right and I liked that when they worked together (for the most part) she didn't have a lot of other people with song writing credits. Seems like they really pulled the best out of each other.

I'm pretty sure that the core of Mariah's ballad catalogue is Walter. Piano player is very versatile and knows all extensions of melody and harmony possible in certain situation. His songs with Celine are on the same level. I mean the fact that Mariah's catalogue is more than 50% her intelectual property is not likely, she doesn't play piano. Her songs were great during Columbia (Walter) and to let's say to TEOM, when she was working with black music producers (Jay-Z, a lot of JD etc.). For her most recent work - it's simply not that good, all songs are fillers, boring, not complicated. Lyrics are still on point tho, that was her thing from the start (look how she speaks, her dictionary is huge). You just can't forget about the fact that she was working with the best of the best people and was biggest investment of Sony Music (also CEOs wife). If I was her, I would try to acknowledge fans about Walter's work - she dodged him so much in her interviews and stuff from the very begging, I would feel so ashamed of myself if I did that. I'm massive lamb and these are my opinions based on what I hear and what I've read. Mariah IS a genius, but she is NOT the only person behind her name. Aside the lyrics, the music itself is less than half her stuff.
