The lyrics of "Beetles In The Bog" by War are very poetic and somewhat enigmatic. In the first verse, the singer sets the scene at dusk, when the sun goes down, and he or she is with the person they love. The specific location is not revealed, but it seems to be open and outdoorsy. The second line of the verse is not quite grammatically correct, but it might suggest that the singer is basking in the warmth and affection of their companion while looking out at a sunset. Then, the third line offers a stark contrast as the singer describes "beetles in the bog" being visible "out in the sky". This phrase could be a metaphor for the dark and potentially unsettling aspects of nature that coexist with the beauty and romance of the sunset. The image of beetles in a bog evokes a primordial, swampy landscape full of creepy crawlies.
The second and third lines of the second verse are not clear, as there is a garbled sound in between them. It's possible that the singer is saying "Quiet stillness wraps the time," implying a sense of peacefulness and calmness as the night falls. The last line again mentions the beetles in the bog, but this time there is a sense of foreboding as the singer says they are "all around" -- perhaps the darkness has become overwhelming and the insects are more present and menacing.
