Galaxy
War Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Take me to your place in space
I'm sick and tired of the rat race
On rocket ship no time to wait
I just want to gravitate

It's out of sight, it's out of sight
It's out of sight, it's out of sight
Gone, it's gone

It's out of sight, it's out of sight
It's out of sight, it's out of sight
Gone, it's gone

People movin' to and fro
To a song and a band and a laser show
Superman, Batman, goin' all night
Playin' one on one with a meteor light

It's out of sight, it's out of sight
It's out of sight, it's out of sight
It's gone, it's gone

It's out of sight, it's out of sight
It's out of sight, it's out of sight
Gone, it's gone, gone, gone

Ninth dimension, seventh lane
I'll get raised in solar cane
The star patrol said keep it down, keep it down, keep it down
Keep it down, keep it down, keep it down, keep it down

As long as the rule when you stay in town
As long as the rule where you stay around

Out of sight, it's out of sight
It's out of sight, it's out of sight
It's gone in the galaxy
It's gone at the galaxy

Out of sight, it's out of sight
It's out of sight, it's out of sight
It's gone in the galaxy
It's gone at the galaxy

Out of sight, it's out of sight
It's out of sight, it's out of sight
It's gone in the galaxy
It's gone at the galaxy

Out of sight, it's out of sight
It's out of sight, it's out of sight

It's gone in the galaxy
It's gone at the galaxy

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to War's song "Galaxy" describe the singer's desire to escape the mundane and superficialities of modern society by traveling to another realm in space. The repetition of "out of sight" and "gone" emphasizes the longing for a place that is beyond reach, while also serving as a nod to the space race and the cultural fascination with the unknown. The reference to Superman and Batman suggests a desire for heroism and adventure, while the mention of a laser show indicates the technological advancements that fuel the desire for exploration. The final lines suggest that rules still exist even in space, although they may differ from those on earth.

One interesting fact about "Galaxy" is that it was included on both the soundtrack for the 1974 film "That's Entertainment!" and the 1975 album "Why Can't We Be Friends?" The song is also notable for its use of funk and jazz influences, which were hallmarks of War's sound.

Another interesting fact is that the song's lyrics were written by Howard Scott, the guitarist for War. Scott also wrote the music for the song along with his fellow band members.

"Galaxy" has been covered by several artists and has appeared in several films and television shows over the years. The song was prominently featured in the 1986 comedy film "Running Scared" and was also used in the TV series "Miami Vice" in 1985.

The chords for "Galaxy" are not available at this time.

My Grandpa Jack Casey was a G!

He owned the business before my dad,
John W Casey. This is Jack Casey
in the French Quarter, New Orleans -
cuz we’re French and Irish,
our family, The Devereux’s are from
Normandy,
France.

Where Monet lived.

We used to have a famous bar called
“The French Quarter” but it burned down
right after my Grandpa Jack Casey died.
I think he took the business when he died,
Cuz he didn’t want us to be in the bar
business.

Hootie and The Blowfish
Got one of their starts at our
Famous French Quarter bar.
Facts. Before Darius Rucker was
“Darius Rucker” and the wagons wheels.
One of Taylor Swift’s favorite songs haha.
Facts.

Jim Casey started the business
back in 1949. He had his legs
amputated cuz he had diabetes.
I think it’s cuz he drank too much
Coca Colas. He loved sugar haha.

I made the Pilgramage to Normandy
where my family is from,
in 2014, and washed my hands
In the water that used to be bloody
On D Day in Normandy.

There’s a statue / sculpture in the water,
Where all the blood used to be.

But of course us Casey’s were
Born in the United States.

@lisarmurphy

Love this band ❤

@globetrotter17

Saw them in El Cajon on 12/17/21. Have loved their music for nearly 50 years. My favorite song when I was in 3rd grade was "The World is a Ghetto" not really understanding the depths of the lyrics. Never thought I'd see them live. Still love their music today.
