Smoggy-eyed
Looking at the sky (the sky)
Starry-eyed
Searchin' for a place (searchin' for a place, searchin' for a place)
Weary-eyed
Crying in the night (crying in the night)
Teary-eyed
Don't you know that it's true
That for me and for you
The world is a ghetto
Don't you know that it's true
That for me and for you (that for me and for you)
The world is a ghetto (oh, oh, oh)
Wonder when I'll find
Paradise
Somewhere there's a home (a home)
Sweet and nice
Wonder if I'll find
Happiness
Never give it up
Now I guess
Don't you know that it's true
That for me and for you
The world is a ghetto
Don't you know that it's true (yeah, hmm)
That for me and for you (that for me and for you, and for you)
The world is a ghetto
Don't you know that it's true (hey baby)
That for me (me)
And for you (you)
The world is a ghetto
Don't you know (don't you know)
That it's true (that it's true)
That for me (that for me)
And for you (and for you)
The world is a ghetto
The world is a ghetto
Yeah, yeah, yeah
The world is a ghetto
You know there's twenty-four hours in the day
The world is a ghetto
Hey now
The world is a ghetto
The world is a ghetto
The song "The World Is A Ghetto" by War reflects the harsh realities of life that people face every day. The lyrics speak of someone searching for a place to call home but finding only a world filled with struggle, pain, and suffering. The use of different adjectives like "smoggy-eyed," "starry-eyed," and "teary-eyed" show the emotional toll these struggles take on individuals. The repetition of "Don't you know that it's true that for me and for you, the world is a ghetto" emphasizes how these struggles are universal and not confined to a particular race, country, or class.
The song goes on to express the hope of finding paradise or happiness, but the repetition of the phrase "I guess" highlights the uncertainty and doubt that come with such aspirations. The world is presented as a place where happiness is fleeting, and people are forced to resign themselves to a life of constant struggle. The song's chorus - "The world is a ghetto" - is a reminder that even with all our advances, we still have a lot of work to do to make the world a better and more equitable place for all.
