Where was you at?
Where was you at?
I've even sailed the seven seas
Where was you at?
Where was you at?
I looked around for someone to help me
Where was you at? (Where was you at?)
I looked around for someone to help me
Where was you at? (Where was you at?)
Where was you at? (Where was you at?)
(Yeah!)
I've been here & there, everywhere
Where was you at? (Where was you at?)
Where was you at? (Where was you at?)
Talkin' 'bout 'round the world - lookin' for you, girl
Where was you at? (Where was you at?)
Where was you at? (Where was you at?)
I looked around for someone to help me
Where was you at? (Where was you at?)
Where was you at? (Where was you at?)
I've been here and there, everywhere
Where was you at? (Where was you at?)
Where was you at? (Where was you at?)
I looked, and I looked
My pony, she bolts from end to end
Let me tell ya now, a dog is a man's best friend
Hey!
But a canine can't be mine (Huh!)
The lyrics to War's song Where Was You At are simple and repetitive, but they paint a powerful picture of a person who is desperately seeking help and finding no one to turn to. The repeated question "Where was you at?" is directed at someone who has seemingly abandoned the singer in their time of need. The lyrics suggest that the singer has been through many trials and tribulations, including bending on their knees and sailing the seven seas, but despite their efforts, they have found no support or assistance.
The lyrics convey a sense of frustration and even anger, as the singer asks the same question over and over again, seemingly unable to understand why they have been left alone. At the same time, the repetitive structure of the song suggests a certain sense of resignation, as if the singer has given up hope of finding the help they need.
Overall, the lyrics to Where Was You At are a powerful expression of the human need for support and companionship, and the frustration that can result when we are unable to find it.
