Wasteland
Wargasm Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
A darkness lies upon this land sent to us from below
A nothingness no one will see a terminated sky
A deadly pall of glowing grey nothing left to die
War after war in the homeland bomb versus bomb in the sky
A curse upon the earth itself a planet too can die
A race for control of the planet idiots ordering war
A mutant race of tortured souls of warped flesh and bone
Inhabit this dead planet now a lifeless slab of stone
A stinking cloud lingers here we cower in our caves
We care not where the future lies atomic zombie slaves
Do you remember long before your mutant mind was born
Your memories are a murky mist from your mind they've been torn
Kill them all survival first your instincts taking hold
Protect what's yours collect some more a circle now unfolds
The lyrics to Wargasm's song Wasteland paint a bleak picture of a post-apocalyptic world, where nothing lives or breathes and a silent wind blows through a deserted landscape. A darkness has enveloped the land, which seems to have been sent from below, implying a supernatural or otherworldly origin. The sky is terminated, and a deadly pall of glowing grey hangs in the air. The scene is one of complete devastation, where nothing is left to die.
The lyrics then pivot to describe the cause of this destruction, which is war after war happening in the homeland. The bombings that have occurred have cursed the earth itself, and now a lifeless slab of stone remains. The decision-makers ordering the war are called out for being foolish in their quest for control of the planet, knowing full well the destructive power of the weapons they wield. A mutant race of tortured souls now inhabits this dead planet, living in constant fear of atomic zombie slavery.
The final verse of the song is a reminder that before the mutant race, there was a world that existed that is now completely lost. Memories are murky and faded, and only the instinct for survival remains. This instinct is so strong that those who are left will protect what is theirs and engage in a never-ending cycle of collecting more. The song ends on the note that the circle is now complete, with nothing left to look forward to.
