Carmelita
Warren Zevon Lyrics
I hear Mariachi static on my radio
And the tubes they glow in the dark
And I'm there with her in Ensenada
And I'm here in Echo Park
Carmelita hold me tighter
I think I'm sinking down
And I'm all strung out on heroin
On the outskirts of town
With my pearl-handled deck
The county won't give me no more methadone
And they cut off your welfare check
Carmelita hold me tighter
I think I'm sinking down
And I'm all strung out on heroin
On the outskirts of town
Well, I pawned my Smith Corona
And I went to meet my man
He hangs out down on Alvarado Street
By the Pioneer chicken stand
Carmelita hold me tighter
I think I'm sinking down
And I'm all strung out on heroin
On the outskirts of town
Carmelita hold me tighter
I think I'm sinking down
And I'm all strung out on heroin
On the outskirts of town

"Carmelita" is a rock song written by American singer-songwriter and musician Warren Zevon. The song was first recorded by Canadian singer Murray McLauchlan on his self-titled album of 1972. Zevon's own version was released four years later, in 1976, on his self-titled album (his 1974 demo version was included as a bonus track on the 2008 reissue of the 1976 album). Linda Ronstadt recorded a well-known version in 1977, and various covers have followed. Read Full Bio"Carmelita" is a rock song written by American singer-songwriter and musician Warren Zevon. K.H. made a correct comment. Warren died from mesothelioma, a form of lung cancer. He was exposed to asbestos when he was a young boy playing in his father's carpet store. Warren had kicked both drugs and alcohol in the 80's. It is true he might have done a little drinking when he recorded "The Wind". But by then he was dying and was in a lot of pain. Who can blame him. He made restitution with his family and went out like a champ.

This isn't meant as hate to NWA, but the fact that NWA has been inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame and Warren hasn't yet is absolutely ridiculous.
