Olivia
Washed Out Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Your choice was right
No chance to be there now
I swear I'm done
You'll want to leave your path

It's yours to find
It's all you've ever done
You're falling down
You'll falling down to us

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Washed Out's song Olivia convey a sense of resignation and acceptance amidst the pain of letting go of someone. The first two lines express regret at not being able to be with the person anymore, acknowledging that it was their choice to move on. The singer then swears that they are finally done trying to hold on to something that cannot be salvaged, knowing that the person will eventually find their own way.

The lines "It's yours to find, It's all you've ever done" can be seen as the perspective of the person who has left, reminding the singer that they have always been a self-sufficient and independent individual. The final line "You'll falling down to us" could be interpreted in a number of ways. It could mean that the singer and their support network will be there to catch the person when they fall, or it could be read as a reminder that the person is not alone in struggling with letting go.

Overall, the lyrics to Olivia showcase a bittersweet mix of emotions, as both parties come to terms with the end of their relationship and the search for closure.

“So in love
It seems good to know
It’s alright
Falling on out
You can forget yourself
Be sure you’re fine
You feel it’s wrath inside
You’ve overcome and....
You know you won’t
Need every stepping stone
You find”

Remember when I watched them perform this one last summer. I found Ernest riding a bike thought the city that day. I got my Life Of Leasure Vinyl just in case I get to meet him after the concert. Such a memorable day. He's a such a humble guy. Such a surreal moment in my life.

My boy doesn’t get enough credit for this. I think he recorded this in late 08 or sometime in 09.
