Washington is the Norwegian indie band now known as Mount Washington, hailing from Tromsø, Norway, but now based in Berlin, Germany.
Founding members of the group are singer/songwriter and guitarist Rune Simonsen, drummer Esko Pedersen and bassplayer Andreas Hoyer. Their music can be referred to as Saybia or Coldplay-like, with melancholic and melodic guitars and piano's, but they're not afraid to experiment on occasions.

In 2011, coinciding with the recording of their fourth album, the band changed their name into Mount Washington. The self-titled 'début album' under the new band name was released in early 2012.

You'll feel strange, I know
Still out of sight, but I've got this mouth
That's full of dynamite, tonight
Lover, you're a soldier
You're a long, long way from home
A long way from your mother and you do it on your own
I don't belong to you and you don't belong to me
Cause it's just so easy
So I survive
I just try to get through and stay alive
You do the same, do the same
I see you running through the rain
Lover, you're a soldier
You're a long, long way from home
A long way from your mother and you do it on your own
I don't belong to you and you don't belong to me
But I don't think we need to
Cause it's just so easy
I got lucky when you said sorry
I couldn't stop now, if I knew how
And if it's true what they say about love and hard work, well alright
Because maybe people in love are all on the same side when they fight
Everyone's raging and railing and screaming for war
But you haven't got anything that I would fight you for, to fight you
Lover, you're a soldier
You're a long, long way from home
A long way from your mother and you do it on your own
I don't belong to you and you don't belong to me
But I don't think we need to
Cause it's just so easy
Lover, you're a soldier
You're a long, long way from home
A long way from your mother and you do it on your own
We can take our chances cause we knew it going in
There'd be lots of dancing but we'd never, ever play to win
Washington's song "Lover / Soldier" is a beautiful exploration of the duality of love and war. The lyrics paint a picture of two people who are in love but separated by distance, with one being a soldier who is fighting a long way from home. The opening lines acknowledge the potential impact that the lyrics will have on the listener, confessing that they understand the song may provoke a strange feeling. The phrase "out of sight, but I've got this mouth that's full of dynamite" suggests that the singer has a powerful voice that can evoke strong emotions and spark change.
The chorus captures the essence of the song, with the words "Lover, you're a soldier, you're a long, long way from home" establishing the distance that separates the couple. The lines "I don't belong to you and you don't belong to me, but I don't think we need to cause it's just so easy" imply that the relationship is not bound by rules or restrictions; instead, it is a natural, effortless connection that transcends boundaries.
The final verse of the song is its most poignant. The singer expresses her willingness to fight for love and suggests that people in love are all on the same side when they fight. She acknowledges that there is a lot of anger and aggression in the world ("Everyone's raging and railing and screaming for war") but insists that there is nothing worth fighting her lover for. The song ends with a sense of hopefulness and acceptance, as the couple "take their chances" and enjoy the moments they have together.
Overall, "Lover / Soldier" is a poignant, tender ode to the complexities of love and war. It captures the pain of separation, the joy of connection, and the hopefulness of two people who are determined to make their relationship work.
