Don't Forget Me
Way Out West Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Before I close my eyes and walk away
There's just one thing that I need to feel
Before I walk away against my will
There's just one thing that I need to hear
Before I walk away for the last time
There's just one thing that I need to see
Before I take this chance and set us free
don't forget me
Don't regret me
Don't suspect me
Don't neglect me
The memory of this still reminds me of you
The memory of this still reminds me
The memory of this still reminds me of you
That is where you'll find me
Stars in your eyes
Did you take the time to realize
Can you count the stars in your eyes
Did you take the time to realize
The lyrics to Way Out West's song "Don't Forget Me" are a poignant expression of someone who is leaving a relationship and needs closure before doing so. The singer enumerates the things they need to say, feel, hear, and see before they leave "against [their] will." It's clear that the decision to leave has not been an easy one, as evidenced by the repeated "just one thing" phrasing. The singer wants to ensure that they won't be forgotten, regretted, suspected, or neglected in their absence.
The final verse brings in the theme of memories and how they keep the memory of the other person alive. This serves to cement the idea that this is not a clean break, but rather a painful and difficult transition. The chorus repeats throughout the song, emphasizing the importance of not being forgotten as the singer leaves.
Overall, the lyrics are a heartfelt expression of the need for closure and reassurance in the midst of a difficult decision to leave a relationship. The song speaks to the universal desire to be remembered and valued, even when we are no longer present.

My mom being in nursing school was a fan of Grey's back when it was on airwaves. I was born in 2001 and she had the Original Soundtrack CD to Season 1 or 2, so often while she was doing nurse stuff I'd hear this song. Now Im about to turn 21 and me, her and my gf love to listen to it. My mom is now a certified charge nurse at Kings Daughters and moved into her dream house. Love you guys ♡ follow your dreams
