Drop D
Wayne Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The days have passed when there weren't enough days before them to say remember when
But you still say i can't wait until and you're still dreaming
I guess some things never die and the ones that do make you cry
And that one little sparkle in your eye is what keeps you going on and on
When you smile is it just for the lights
And when you pray does it come from deep inside
Did today look good when you went to bed last night
Every morning starts with a sunrise and no fair warning for what might pass your eyes
So don't let them make your head spin
Throw out a line and pull your soul in
Call your mother and tell her that you're fine

When you hurt there's always a reason why
But grief and pain are only passers by
So make sure tomorrow looks good before you sleep tonight

Don't ever let them bring you down
Try not to let them make you frown

'Cause in the morning when the light shines in
You know today you might win

Overall Meaning

Wayne's song "Drop D" is a poignant reflection on the ephemeral nature of time and the way that memories and dreams can help us continue to persevere even when life's hurdles seem insurmountable. The opening lines of the song set the tone for this introspective tone, emphasizing the fact that there are always more things to look forward to no matter how many days have passed us by. Yet despite this hopeful sentiment, the song acknowledges that not all things are meant to last forever. Some things we lose, and when we do, it can feel like our world comes crashing down around us. But throughout all of life's hardships, the song emphasizes the importance of holding onto that one "little sparkle" that keeps us going.

As the song progresses, Wayne encourages listeners not to let life's twists and turns get the best of them. Whether it's the unexpected twists and turns of each new day or the harsh words of people who may not understand us, the song urges us to keep moving forward and to keep our spirits high. We must remember that every day is a new day, filled with new opportunities and new chances to chase our dreams. By staying connected to the people we love, remembering the good times, and always looking forward towards the future, we can weather any storm.

Overall, Wayne's lyrics offer a powerful and uplifting message about the importance of perseverance, hope, and resilience in the face of life's challenges. By acknowledging the ways in which we all struggle and by offering a hand of support and encouragement, the song reminds us that we are never alone, and that together, we can face even the toughest of challenges.

Very Bettsy

They were amazing. I was a Budweiser rep when they performed one of their last concerts... We were a sponsor at that particular festival. What happened to them was because of a bad record deal. I was hoping they would come back from it but they never did. They were even more amazing live. I hope they are all doing well:)

Brandon Butler

Quite possibly the best band to have ever come out of Birmingham, Alabama...and there have been many. We miss you, Wayne.

Brandon Butler I kept looking for years hoping they'd release more music. Bought "Music on Plastic" back on Bomb Records and then again when they signed with TVT. It still remains one of my desert island albums.

Love Is Noise

Great band! Too bad they disappeared....they need to come back!

I know this video was posted a long time ago. But my uncle was the drummer and I never got to see them play cause I was too little to see them.

That's awesome! I'm glad you came across this. Tell your uncle that "Music on Plastic" is still one of my desert island albums all these years later. Great stuff!

If they ever were to get together and release music under their own record label there are def tons of us out there who would back them up and new ears to listen!
