He was still under contract to Fontana Records after parting with The Mindbenders. He soldiered on alone, using musicians under the name of the Opposition. Notably, Frank Renshaw (now in the Canary Islands), Bernie Burns (drums), Roy 'Rossi' Henshall (bass) (also now Canary Islands), Rod Gerrard (guitar, ex Herman's Hermits - now in America) and Phil Keane (drums) amongst others. Sometimes they were billed as the Mindbenders, or just as the Wayne Fontana band. Fontana's most successful solo single release was also his last big hit, "Pamela, Pamela", which reached Number 11 in the UK Singles Chart early in 1967. He soldiered on, releasing several more singles including "The Impossible Years" and "24 Sycamore" in 1967 which were both hits in Australia. His last known 7" 45 rpm was released in 1976, but he continued to perform on the oldies circuit.
In 2005, long past his hit making prime, he fought off bankruptcy, but was arrested after police were called by bailiffs who went to his home in Glossop, Derbyshire. In a protest against a 570 pound London congestion fine, he poured petrol on to the bonnet of the collection baliff's car, and set it alight. After his arrest, Fontana 61, then appeared at Derby Crown Court dressed as the lady of justice, with a sword, scales, crown, cape and dark glasses, claiming he was a victim of an “establishment conspiracy” and that "justice is blind". He dismissed his lawyers On 10 November 2007, he was sentenced to 11 months for setting fire to the car but was released because he had already served the equivalent of the term, held under the UK's Mental Health Act of 1983.
Fontana told the media he would be moving to Spain after settling the legal matters.

Is take a look at you, then I'm not so blue
When you're close to me I can feel you heart beat
I can hear you breathing in my ear
Wouldn't you agree, baby, you and me
Got a groovy kind of love (groovy kind of love)
We got a groovy kind of love (groovy kind of love)
Any time you want to you can turn me on to
Anything you want to, any time at all
When you kiss my lips oh, I start to shiver
Can't control the quivering inside
Wouldn't you agree, baby, you and me
Got a groovy kind of love (a groovy kind of love)
We got a groovy kind of love
When I'm in your arms nothing seems to matter
If the world would shatter I don't care
Wouldn't you agree, baby, you and me
Got a groovy kind of love (groovy kind of love)
We got a groovy kind of love (groovy kind of love)
We got a groovy kind of love
The lyrics to Wayne Fontana's "Groovy Kind of Love" speak to the overwhelming feeling of love and affection that can overcome a person when they are with someone they care deeply for. The song captures all the small things that make up a relationship - the way that being in someone's arms can make the world fade away, the sound of their heartbeat and their breathing, and the feeling of their lips against yours.
Throughout the song, the singer talks about how being with this person makes them feel - how they can turn them on to anything, how their lips make them shiver, and how nothing seems to matter as long as they are together. The word "groovy" is used throughout the song as a descriptor for the type of love they share - it's easy-going, it's fun, and it's effortlessly wonderful.
The song is a testament to the power of connection and the joy that can come from being with someone who truly understands you. It's a timeless anthem to the goodness of love and how it can change everything for the better.

This song is special to me for when I was a teenager I learned to play it on guitar and sing it in perfect tune to my girlfriend. She loved the song and me and for 26 years we had a wonderful marriage and two children. Jane passed away six years ago and every time I hear it I tear up thinking about my beloved wife. I was blessed with more joy than anyone can imagine!

One of the prettiest most melodic songs from the 1960's!

Actually it is note to note taken from the opening theme of the Rondo movement of Sonatina in G major, op. 36 no. 5 by Muzio Clementi. So this lovely tune is actually some two hundred years old :)

Borrowing from the Classical Composers was rather often done in the 1960s....why melodies could be so extraordinary.

An era of innocence lost in time. Great, talented singers/musicians who gave us impeccable vocals, unforgettable heart-wrenching ballads and suits/ties! We'll not see those days again, but thank God for the time tunnels of reminiscing! This was one of the great songs from the 60s, which ranks as a favorite! Why? I wish I could sing like that!!!
