Afterlife
We Are The Empty Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Pry open the eyes of the frozen
I tried to find you
I tried to warn you
That we're being stripped of emotions
In confrontation
Disintegration of sense

DRAINING

Afterlife
We won't be born again
Sold our lights
To serve the revenant
Afterlife
Enter fire, enter flames
Watch the whole world go insane
Holding tight
But slipping off the edge
Fight or flight
Only to die again
Afterlife

Why waste all our time being servants?
We've lost our colors
Gave into monsters
So curse all your filthy opinions
I had an orchard
But then they burned it DOWN
DOWN
DOWN
DOWN

MAGMA

Afterlife
We won't be born again
Sold our lights
To serve the revenant
Afterlife
Enter fire, enter flames
Watch the whole world go insane
Holding tight
But slipping off the edge
Fight or flight
Only to die again
Afterlife

Save me, save me
Save me, save me

Marching, marching
We keep on marching till' the gods start torching GODS

Afterlife
We won't be born again
Sold our lights
To serve the revenant
Afterlife
Enter fire, enter flames
Watch the whole world go insane
Holding tight
But slipping off the edge
Fight or flight

Only to die again
Afterlife

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of We Are The Empty's song Afterlife speaks about the loss of emotions and the feeling of being drained. The song opens with the line "Pry open the eyes of the frozen," which refers to the feeling of being stuck, immobile, and numb. The singer has tried to find someone and warn them, but it seems like they are unable to hear the warning. The idea of "disintegration of sense" suggests that something is breaking down, and it is likely linked to the feeling of being drained.

The chorus of the song repeats the idea of the afterlife, that there is no hope for being reborn, and instead, existence is serving the revenant, something that is undead and lifeless. The phrase "Enter fire, enter flames, watch the whole world go insane" is a vivid description of the apocalypse or end of the world, of events that are beyond our control. The repetition of "holding tight but slipping off the edge" reflects the singer's fear of the unknown and their tenuous grip on life. The final line of the song, "Marching, marching, we keep on marching till' the gods start torching," suggests that regardless of what we do, it will not matter in the end, highlighting the futility of existence.

Overall, the song Afterlife by We Are The Empty speaks of a bleak outlook on life where everything is hopeless and futile. The singer feels stuck and drained, and no matter what they do, it seems like it will not matter. The chorus emphasizes the afterlife as a symbol of this hopelessness, where existence is nothingness, and life is lived to serve something that is lifeless.

@We Are The Empty ooooooh cleaver

@roxasreaper1667

I feel so satisfied with this song; I stumbled upon it with the Kowloon trailer, and since I'm a die hard fan of Heavy Metal, I consider it the best 2019 song of that genre I've heard so far. Quoting one of the commentaries here, I also think it would be a successor for Cryoshell's Bionicle songs, if they still existed, you also remind me slightly to Avenged Sevenfold, and not just for the title of the song XD, you would make them proud.

You deserve to be included in the easter egg songs of official Zombie maps, Keep up the good work!
