In April 2009, We Are the In Crowd's Myspace page was hacked. The hacker deleted all of their friends and music. The music site Absolutepunk.net posted a news article regarding the hacking, and the news post attracted the attention of someone at Hopeless Records who contacted the band shortly after. On November 10, 2009, the group announced their signing with Hopeless Records as "The In Crowd" and released their first single "For the Win" on iTunes. The band changed their name to "We Are the In Crowd" due to trademark issues with a reggae band from the seventies who were also called "The In Crowd"
In February 2009, We Are the In Crowd recorded their debut Hopeless Records EP with producers Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount (All Time Low, Mayday Parade, Jimmy Eat World, Cartel). The EP, titled Guaranteed To Disagree, was released on June 8, 2010.
The music video for "Both Sides of the Story" was officially released on October 15, 2010. The music video for "Never Be What You Want" was released on April 20, 2011. The band performed on the Vans Warped Tour for Summer 2010.
The band entered the studio in early May 2011 to begin recording their full length debut. On August 3, 2011 it was announced the album would be titled Best Intentions and that it would be released on October 4. It debuted on the U.S. Billboard 200 at No. 122.

Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Someone should teach you some manners
I wish I had a camera
I think you've got more nerve than you've got tact
I wanna take a picture
Of the look when your words bite your back
What do you see when you close your eyes
Do you sleep
I know you do and I'm not surprised
While your ego keeps you warm
It's burning
All the bridges that you start
We tried
Oh, we tried
What goes around comes around
Now it's right back here to haunt you
We tried
(I earned my wings teaching guys like you)
Oh, we tried
(To keep your mouth shut, so keep your mouth shut)
Now you lost what I found
But I'm right back here to haunt you
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
And now I'm right back here
You're so transparent
I see straight through your empty chest
And spineless back
I've seen enough not to trust
I think enough is enough
You got too close
You know I'm terrible
At keeping track of sleep
It always seems to sneak away
Along with wolves like you
Dressed as counting sheep
We tried
Oh, we tried
(I kept my mouth shut, I kept my mouth shut)
What goes around comes around
Now it's right back here to haunt you
We tried
(I earned my wings teaching guys like you)
Oh, we tried
(To keep your mouth shut, so keep your mouth shut)
Now you lost what I found
But I'm right back here to haunt you
Hey!
It always seems to slip away
I'm taking back what is mine
What is left is here to haunt you
(Hey!)
It always seems to slip away
Don't even know what you lost
But I hope this will remind you
You can never be honest
Remind you
Not the first or the last
I promise
Now you lost what I found
But I'm right back here to haunt you
Oh oh oh oh
Now I'm right back here
Oh oh oh oh
And now I'm right back here to haunt you
"We Are the In Crowd's" song "Manners" talks about the importance of treating people with respect, tact and humility. The song begins with the repeated line "someone should teach you manners," which sets the tone for the rest of the song. The lyrics then go on to describe how the singer wants to photograph the shock on someone's face when their rude comments come back to haunt them. The song speaks to the notion of karma, that what goes around comes around.
The second verse begins with a question to the antagonist: "What do you see when you close your eyes, do you sleep?" The lyrics hint at the idea that this person may feel guilty about their actions, but their ego is keeping them from admitting it. The singer challenges the person to take responsibility for their actions before moving on with their life. The bridge of the song sees the singer taking back what is theirs and warning the antagonist that their actions will come back to haunt them.
In summary, "Manners" is a song that warns against rude behavior and the importance of being respectful towards others. The song suggests that it is important to take responsibility for our actions and be honest with ourselves and others. The lyrics also speak to the idea that karma is real and what goes around comes around.
