From the inside out
With no one but yourself to blame
So face the truth or suffer and lose
All the games you play keep pushing me further away
Come back to me, come back to see
There's no reason why
Run, we could run for miles
It'll take a while to bring me back to you
Run, we could run for miles
Will you walk the wire?
You know it's up to you
So where is your heart? (Have you lost all feeling?)
Go back to the start (Have you lost the meaning?)
Leaving behind everything you know
Well make a truce, there's nothing to prove
Get your head out the clouds or be washed away by the rain
Come back to me, come back to see
It's the same old story
Everytime you look the other way
So what's there left to say?
Run, we could run for miles
It'll take a while to bring me back to you
Run, we could run for miles
I should walk on by us
If you want the truth
You know it's up to you
Falling apart from the inside out
With no one but yourself to blame
So face the truth or suffer and lose
All the games you play keep pushing me further away
Come back to me, come back to see
The light beyond the shade
Everybody has their price to pay
Run, we could run for miles
It'll take a while to bring me back to you
You're running out of luck and the road is long enough
Tell me when you've had enough
You know it's up to you (You know it's up to you)
If you want the truth (Well if you want the truth)
There's nothing left to prove
You know it's up to, YOU!
The lyrics of "The Road" by We Are the Ocean speak to a challenging time in a relationship. The singer addresses someone who is falling apart from the inside out and pushing the other person away with their games. The first verse paints a picture of someone who is quick to blame others for their problems but needs to face the truth to avoid further suffering and loss.
In the second verse, the singer urges the other person to return to the beginning, as they seem to have lost touch with their heart and sense of purpose. There is a suggestion that they need to make peace with themselves and leave their old ways behind. The chorus offers a solution: to run away together, leaving their troubles behind, but there is a catch. The other person must walk the wire and prove their commitment.
The bridge emphasizes that the road ahead is long and difficult, but the only way to succeed is to face the truth and pay the price. The song ends with a challenge to the other person to make a choice, to either continue on their self-destructive path or to come back and rebuild what they've lost.
Overall, "The Road" is a powerful song about love and loss, the challenges of relationships, and the importance of facing the truth to move forward.
