Silence of the lambs
We Singing Colors Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's people talking, people dancing, people running to stand still
In the club where I met you the other night
Nobody touches you, nobody dares to ask for a dance
They're just looking at your legs and picture more
I come and ask "Do you have a lighter?" and you're smiling the "Yes" through
Your little teeth and tongue and tits and all you do

Oh my God, you're so mean
'Cause you're only fifteen

Look at me I'm a pedophile and I got a file on you
Please don't call the police they don't know what love is
Look at me I'm a pedophile and I got a file on you
Don't you worry little girl, 'cause my soul is much more younger than you

I call you baby, you're no baby you're as grown up as I am
You're a sinner, I'm a saint on Heaven's dance floor
It's been six years since we last spoke and I don't love you at all now
You've grown into a clubber girl and I'm a church door
You go to same bar every night hoping to find the right boy
Today you see him, but he's a killer, lucky you

Oh my God, you're a prey
You'll better runaway

Look at him, he's a pedophile and he's got a file on you
You'll better call the police he doesn't know what love is
Look at him he's a pedophile and he's got a file on you
You should worry little girl, he will hurt you more than I do

Look at us we're two pedophiles, but one of us got it right
You're the victim and I'm as silent as a lamb

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Silence of the Lambs by We Singing Colors present a shocking reality of a pedophile's psyche, as the singer in the song confesses his attraction and file on a fifteen-year-old girl he met at a club. The song's first verse describes the club scene where people dance and run to stand still, while the singer takes notice of the girl who nobody touches but only stares at her legs. The singer then approaches her, asking for a lighter, and compared to the other people around her, he is the only one who speaks to her. The girl's "little teeth and tongue and tits and all you do" seemingly interest the singer, and he expresses his twisted desires through the next verse.

The chorus of the song repeats, "Look at me, I'm a pedophile, and I've got a file on you" while admitting to having no understanding of love. The singer tries to justify his actions by claiming that his soul is younger than hers, which is a disturbing attempt to excuse his immoral behavior. The second verse switches the singer's focus from himself to the girl he met at the club, describing her as a grown-up "clubber girl" who goes to the same bar every night and hoping to find the right boy. However, the girl ends up encountering a killer, and the singer warns her, but doesn't take any responsibility for the danger she's in.

The chorus repeats once more, except this time, the singer refers to himself and the killer as two pedophiles, both preying on the girl. The end of the song concludes with the line "You're the victim, and I'm as silent as a lamb," revealing the singer's passive attitude towards his pedophilic desires.

Overall, the lyrics of We Singing Colors's Silence of the Lambs are deeply unsettling, exploring the dangerous mindset of a pedophile and his twisted justification for his immoral behavior.

Steve Coogan is a genius. Artists get ideas from different sources.

Remember seeing this on its opening night in the west end. Still the best Musical of all time.

@Picnicl

All of Steve Coogan's characters are innocents. They mean well. Tony Ferrino is perhaps the most interesting of all because his songs are catchy and complexly sincere to a particular style in delivery and presentation. He dresses the part, he does seem popular with women. There's a blind spot to him but it's not exaggeratedly huge. You can believe he's real. The writing and production are spot on. It's not 'mere' parody. It's a character study plus a study of cultural expectations plus a study of British light entertainment and of the carefree spirit of the 60s/70s. One of Coogan's genius moments.

@trailersic

Just don't look to closely into what happened to Tony's brother and wife.

'Steve Brown' was the co-writer. Martin Coogan is credited only on Sunday For Me & Man Stallion according to the album. (Was too busy with his Mock Turtles millions, probably).

Coogans characters are composite, he creates complicated deep comic figures, therein lies his genius. If you never look beyond the top layer you miss all the fun.
