I love this show so much.

The concept of overwieght people trying to do something about their weight by walking is such a good idea.

@D Shak wasn't it just going from New York to Boston? I think I remember seeing that. I agree about needing to be conditioned. I was in the army but even as a very athletic fit person, carrying the equivalent of "3 stone" in a rucksack on my back, it was no small feat. I was pretty good it but blisters were a fact of life.

Food is the determining factor in the overall health and fitness of a person. If you put diesel in a gas engine, the car won't run. If you continually feed yourself on rubbish, your body will not funtion no matter what you are trying to do.

@laur ] I do not mean this in a rude way, but I do not think that Hayley liked herself very much. I think she felt more challenge than many of the other people in the group. I think that self loathing can be common and sadly, I have heard many people who consider themselves to be heavier than the rest of the population describe themselves as looking like a "monster," which is an awful way to feel.

@UK Immigration Law Geek Definitely agree, re Hayley. I think Hayley is also more unfit than some of the others in general. Like you said; most of the time she's with her children in the home whereas Stacey for example is out and about. It has social ramifications but also physical ones; I think even though Hayley isn't the heaviest in the group, she is gets much less exercise in than some of the other participants because most of the time she's just sat at home. Looking at her at 8:30, she is clearly actually seriously struggling to keep going even though she's far behind and setting a slower pace - she isn't just dragging behind because she's protesting.

But everything feeds into each other - she isn't able to socialise as well as the others so she didn't really bond with anyone, so when she is struggling and only complains, no one feels much sympathy for her and it just spirals from there. She feels more and more unhappy, less motivated, walks slower, complains more, gets left further behind, annoys the others more, etc. Sadly I don't think it would have been very difficult for this march to have been successful for her.

It also has to do with lifestyle. Hailey was mostly housebound, taking care of her two children. Stacey, on the other hand, was more accustomed to going out and doing things. Thus, I think Stacey felt more comfortable in relation to being part of a group. Hailey (I do not mean this in a rude way) had more of an isolated existence and barely left the house. I think this is one of the reasons why Hailey experienced difficulty.

Walking is really the only thing I can do anymore. I suffer from Ehlers danlos syndrome and chronic arthritis, I’m 41 ☹️. Used to do kickboxing and martial arts 5 times a week and train all weekend. But EDS changed everything. I walk about 6 miles a day with my springer spaniel, and I push myself to do this!

Did anyone tell them it's a good idea to clip your toenails if you're planning to hike for several weeks? I think they're holding up great. I don't think I could hike for several weeks and sleep in a tent despite being normal weight. I'm really impressed.

I like the idea of making a change but I think the HOW is one of the dumbest ideas ever. When you work out, you increase difficulty bit by bit. Here they go from not walking any significant distance to 500 miles. People prepare for something like this for years, it just seems very dangerous to push overweight lads to do it

I'm disappointed Vince quit. The group was supporting him. It was Hailey's attitude and ego that bothered the group. She never put anyone else's wellbeing ahead of her own, not once. Had her attitude not been so horribly selfish and miserable they would have supported her too.

Though I was impressed when Stacy caught up with them and apologized for her antics. Similar when she backed away from the fish and chips in the pub afterwards. Usually I'd think that most can be approved even if not that often, but perhaps it's necessary with a full stop of the unhealthy foods to stop the craving of it. After all, there so much healthy food that is sound nutritious yet still delicious.

People who have never been big can't imagine what these people have done over a period of 8 weeks. There's one sad point, I don't know how they can keep up this amount of training in normal life. I feel like the makers of this show really played with the lives of these people. What if someone had fallen? They are too heavy to be going downhill without better safety measures. They should have given the hills a miss. It was challenging enough to walk 500 miles. Going up mini mountains and climbing over fences was begging for a broken leg.

These people have had a lifetime of taking the easiest option, the woman at 19:30 i thought they had dubbed in some weird audio complaining of a teenager. (This show is on whilst I eat lunch) so only half watching IT. I do hill walking and honestly and possibly weirdly the tough conditions make it all the better. he fittest guy in the group was an Ahole, it was his pace or go home basically which would not have worked had he been the least fit selected

Hayley was bullied and forced off within the first day of coming back. I would have put her with the more sympathetic Vince and Jack for a couple of days. I think Matt should have helped them with attitude, pacing themselves, and supporting each other.

@lushpapaya oh l agree, she was awful but you can see the types of personality traits and behaviours/experiences that have contributed towards the weight gain. I knew someone very similar once.
However, she was still treated badly by the others and as teacher/Scout leader l feel that Matt and the unshown production team had a duty of care to support them better with counselling and their expectations of psychological, social and emotional challenges.

I don't agree with this approach. Think it might simply make them hate walking and get used to eating too much as if they eat the same amount they did during this but without the walking they will gain weight. I'd prefer it if they stayed at home but taught them walking routes around where they live that are flat and on the road.They would enjoy it more. Just think it's more realistic that they might keep that up. And then get them used to eating less as that's the most important thing for weight loss and maintenance rather than exercise. Teach them how to alter meals to reduce calorie content and new meals to swap in etc.

I walk a lot, for ways like 21: 47 I would use walkimng-sticks to make sure not to fall. I carrie them allways fixed on my backpack for stand-by help.

at his weight if vince had fallen he could have crippled himself, like for life, and there healthy "guide" was no where near him to help steady him..its no wonder he freaked out, slippery wet grass, uneven downward terrain, and physically drained he was wise to quit when he did.
