After their debut LP release, Highways, in 2012 the band started gaining national notoriety and laid the foundations of a loyal fan base. Reinforced by their most accomplished work to date, 2015’s Not A Chance EP, which was released through Panic State Records. The record’s single “Bridge Burner” quickly amassed over 1,000,000 plays on Spotify.
Based in Ottawa and collecting members from the far reaches of Eastern Canada, We Were Sharks continue to wield the full-force of Canadian alternative music. Through a penchant for blending melodic harmony with powerful dissonance they continue to produce infectious music. Even though these boys already have a lot of mileage under their belts, their book is far from written.

And I can't seem to close my eyes
A piece of me is missing
When you're not by my side
Nobody knows how
Much I need this
Nobody knows how
Much I need this
In the littlest of things
Knowing you're somewhere
Sleeping while I sing
Nobody knows how
Much I need this
Nobody knows how
Much I need this
The city lights are blinding (are blinding)
No sleep tonight
I'll be thinking of you
No matter where I go
(You're home sweet home)
No matter where I go
I keep this picture of you
To keep me company
You're the last thing that i see
Before I fall asleep
Nobody knows how
Much I need this
Nobody knows how
Much I need this
The city lights are blinding (are blinding)
No sleep tonight
I'll be thinking of you
No matter where I go
(You're home sweet home)
No matter where I go
(You're home sweet home)
You're home sweet home
You're home sweet home
I wish you were here (my home sweet home)
I wish you were here (my home sweet home)
I wish you were here (my home sweet home)
I wish you were here (my home sweet home)
It's three a.m
And I can't seem to close my eyes
A piece of me is missing
When you're not by my side
Nobody knows how
Much I need this
Nobody knows how
Much I need this
"We Were Sharks's" song "Go West Young Man" is about missing someone deeply and finding comfort in the littlest of things when that person is not around. The singer in the song is up late at night, unable to sleep, and finding solace in the knowledge that the person they miss is somewhere sleeping while they are singing. Throughout the lyrics, the singer repeats the line "nobody knows how much I need this," emphasizing how important this person is to them.
The city lights are blinding and the singer is kept up all night thinking of their loved one. They have a picture of this person that they keep with them at all times, and it helps to keep them company, especially when they're feeling lonely. The repeated line "you're home sweet home" emphasizes how important this person is to the singer and how much they long for their presence.
