Love Again
We the Kings Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You tie your words around my neck
And now it's getting tighter
And we go at it like a
Demon swingin' at a fighter

When we're together we're like
Fire burning underwater
We're spittin' poison, drippin' sweat
And now it's getting

Oh yeah, can we love again, love again
'Till the sun comes up again
Oh yeah, can we love again, love again
'Till the sun comes up again

Can we love again
Can we love again
Can we love again
Can we love again
Can we love again

You push me farther
Work it harder than I've had it ever
Before we finish breaking up
We're getting back together

You got me good I got it bad
I wanna feed that fire
And I'm a sucker for the pain
No one can hurt me better

Oh yeah, can we love again, love again
'Till the sun comes up again
Oh yeah, can we love again, love again
'Till the sun comes up again

Can we love again
Can we love again
Can we love again
Can we love again
Can we love again

Hey, hey, wooh
Hey, hey, wooh
Hey, hey, wooh
Hey, hey

Oh yeah, can we love again, love again
'Till the sun comes up again
Oh yeah, can we love again, love again
'Till the sun comes up again

Can we love again? Wooh
Can we love again? Wooh
Can we love again? Wooh
Can we love again? Wooh
Can we love again? Wooh

Can we love again? Wooh
Can we love again? Wooh

Can we love again? Wooh
Can we love again? Wooh

Overall Meaning

In the song Love Again by We the Kings, the artist reflects upon an on-again, off-again relationship. The phrase "tie your words around my neck" implies that their significant other is controlling and dominating, suffocating the lyricist with their words. However, the artist still desires the passion and intensity of the relationship, even though it exhausts them ("we go at it like a demon swinging at a fire"). When they are together, it is a roller-coaster of emotions, a "fire burning underwater" and a volatile exchange of emotions ("spittin' poison, drippin' sweat").

Despite acknowledging that the relationship is painful and exhausting ("I'm a sucker for the pain, no one can hurt me better"), they still want to pursue it, asking the question "can we love again?" repeatedly, signifying the desire to rekindle the romance until "the sun comes up again." The artist recognizes that the relationship has the potential to go either way - they could break up again, or they could find a way to work through their issues and build a lasting relationship.

Overall, the theme of Love Again is the struggle of maintaining a tumultuous relationship, fraught with intensity and passion but also with pain and heartache. The artist recognizes the high stakes but still wants to give it another try.

I don't understand why people actually are not liking this song. i'd understand if it's not your jam but saying that you hated it because WTK's music has changed so much is intolerable. Music is ever evolving and you cannot expect them or any artists to sound exactly the same when they debuted. They mature, they tend to branch out and try other musical techniques and stuff and I don't see anything wrong with that. They still are doing what they love and (maybe I just love them too much) I like that they still continue to share their talent with us. More powers to one of my fave bands ever!

@bayleestepina1

Thank you! I was about to comment about the same thing, but you couldn't of said it better!

+prila13 I don't even get what your trying to say, that people shouldn't voice their opinions on the song? If the style of a band's music changes so much that it switches to another genre, of course there is going to be a backlash. Its pretty reasonable thing to voice that you don't like the new direction.
I'm not even one of the people that hates the song, but just saying.

@aprilskelter

+Sofallen Of course, we are free to voice out our opinion. That's why i am voicing out mine, too. It's just, maybe a prod to those who wanted WTK to stick to their old stuff when we all know how music is ever changing and even Travis has explained it on his Instagram, right? I do see your point, though. We may not agree on everything but in the end, we'll still listen to the music that we love so yeah, i guess just respect each others' preferences.
