The band members (Travis Clark - Lead Vocals/Rhythm Guitar/Piano, Hunter Thomsen - Lead Guitar ,Coley O'Toole - Backing Vocals/Piano, Charles Trippy - Bass, Danny Duncan - Drums) first met at Martha B. King Middle School in Bradenton, and their name refers to the school mascot. The group began playing together while at Manatee High School in the early 2000s, and landed on the PureVolume Top 10 list after hiring a manager.

They have toured with All Time Low, Boys Like Girls, and The Audition; as well as Mayday Parade, Madina Lake, and Powerspace. They have also toured with Cobra Starship, The Cab, and Metro Station, and were on the 2008 Warped Tour line-up. They have toured with The Academy Is..., Carolina Liar, and Hey Monday on the "Bill and Trav's Bogus Journey Tour."

In "Part of Me" by We the Kings, the lyrics speak about letting go of someone who you considered a close friend or a lover. The opening line says, "I know it's deep, I'm letting go of your arm just let me know, if I fall will I be broken by the rocks beneath the lies". This line could refer to a few different things, but it seems to be about someone who wants to let go of their friend/lover's support and move on but is scared that they will be hurt if they fall. They wonder if the person who they are letting go of was lying to them all along and if the truth will cause them to fall and be hurt.
The second part of the verse mentions violence and being tied up with no control over the situation. It's possibly talking about some sort of abusive relationship or a toxic friendship that the singer needs to leave. The line, "will we wonder what tomorrow brings or follow the disguise" seems to be suggesting that they have to make a choice between staying in the toxic relationship or leaving and starting a new tomorrow.
Finally, the last verse describes a situation where the person who the singer is letting go of told them that they wanted something more than just a friendship, but then later claims they don't care. It's clear that the singer is struggling with their emotions and finds it hard to believe the person they are separating from. The song ends with the line, "When you're all alone and you want something more I can't believe what you say when I'm with you", suggesting that the person is unreliable and it's difficult for the singer to trust them.

These songs just show how much experience WTK has had w/music and different genres, and I think they are one of the best bands ever. I love their 'Smile Kid' CD. I enjoyed it on Christmas morning and will for like the rest of my life. =D

originally they were Broken Image, but came across many copyright issues. they did release a few mixed cd's before this one. Travis occasionally posts them on his blog (its terrible and very blink 182-esque ha) Its definitely awesome that travis has stuck with it for so long, being the only original band member regardless of release date...awesome post

unless they released an ep before the ivy ep, (which i doubt) then this is their first ep. they released it july 20, 2005. they made 1000 or so copies of it. then they changed their name to desoto, and then again to we the kings. then the rereleased some of the ivy songs on friendship is a touchy subject. so you are right, this isn't their first allbum, this came out 2 years before their first full length album.

Yes they did. His name was Brian Sconberg, and he's still a pretty chill dude. They went from Broken Image to DeSoto and then changed to We The Kings when they got signed.

yes this is travis singing. no it is not a new song. like i said in the description, it is one of the first songs they ever recorded and it was on their ivy and their friendship is a touchy subject eps. most of the stuff i have put up by them came out before their self-titled album.
